Ice water OR Rosin press?

Hey,

I just wanted to get some thoughts and insight on what experienced extractors think of these two methods for extraction? Pros and Cons? Thoughts, or comparison of costs for at least "reasonably good quality" equipment.

I've made bubble hash several times before. What I don't like about the process is having to keep everything cold, making or buying ice, and feeling pretty rushed in the past.

I haven't tried rosin yet, making it or consuming it. The main reason, is not wanting to spend big money on a rosin press (and getting all the parts to diy will just be a waste of time and money, I think).

Thanks.

I find bubble hash to be a tastier smoother smoke for sure. That's my preference, but it's also a fuck load more effort than just throwing flower in a bag and pressing it.

Lots of hydroponic shops have a press and you can pay them to press some of your stuff and see how you like it first. Do you have a dab rig to consume it with? I also like to spread flower rosin on my joints.

My buddy has a an apartment size washing machine setup for doing the ice hash takes some of the labour out.

As far as big money on A rosin press have you thought about getting a 20T shop press from princess auto and some press plates off Amazon or the 'baba?

I have a rig, yea.

I've been looking at the "bubble bag dude" bags or kit, maybe just bags and a better apt. size washer. But I duno if the bubble bag dude bags are good quality (amazon). I got some cheap junk ones a few years ago that did the job.

Does your buddy also air dry his bubble hash?

I think getting plates and a press etc. would end up costing around the same price as getting one of those amazon presses (with dual heated plates and temp controls, anodized plates, etc.,?).

I'd say you could do a 20T setup with princess auto press and the aftermarket plates for the same or less vs the off the shelf 4-5T setups on Amazon.

just realized 20T. Ok, I see.
Is there any benefit to having 20T of pressure though? Is that necessary (or, what size plates is that necessary for, is maybe what I should say?)?

I'd get the bigger plate like 4x7 or 5x7 for 20T.

so I don't press any of my stuff I give it to the hash man. But he recently told me he was with another old buddy who pressed the bags at way higher pressure. Now I was under the impression that drives too much plant matter out. But upon smoking it was still really smooth so I don't know what to think. And I think this other guy is using a 50T setup and says he presses it to the max. Lol.

I am sure a serious hash nerd will be by soon to set us straight.

How does rosin compare/contrast to bubble hash (which again, I've had)? And also to "shatter" (bho)?

The only problem I see with rosin is it's tastiest straight off the plates ( from what I've heard on RIU)
Temple balls age nicely.

My rosin press, the same as the recently aforementioned above, is a 4x7 - 12 ton dab press kit from Amazon, presses whatever level of bubble ive made into super smooth rosin dabs. I feel like they work in tandem, but are completely different products to begin with. Bubble hash is trichomes, Rosin is trichomes, waxes and lipids unless you filter. I cant dab my hash as of yet, despite finishing it with hot wine bottle rolling/decarb, but it matters not when i have a rosin press now.

get the bubble hash washing machine with 5 gallon bubble hash bags(full size mesh of the entire bag, not just the bottom level of the bag being mesh, because the two part mesh bags break down over time, full mesh do not.) or get a mixing paddle for a drill and garbage bin sized bubble bags. Learn how to make bubble hash from Frenchy Cannoli's videos, enjoy your hash, and continue to hone your hash making skills.
Then get a dab press, one that isnt an all in one pumper with a tiny plate that you can never upgrade, at least get similar to what I have or make your own from parts, then learn how to get yields from rosin.

At this point youll have the ability to make large quantities of hash, and subsequently also have the ability to further refine your hash into hash rosin or simply press flower - which I dont think is worth it. Id rather blast flower into BHO and press bubble hash in the rosin press. Preferences, but not for no reason. Set up a plan for yourself, OR just get a rosin press, youll enjoy it more than the hash you make until youre a veritable master.

How does surface area affect a hydraulic system?
The surface area of a component can have dramatic effects on the work that the system is capable of! There is a direct mathematical relationship between the force that a hydraulic system is capable of transferring, the pressure of the system, and the surface area of the component being driven.
That being said, seems to me smaller plates with less tones per sq. inch are fine for people with fewer grams to press.. Now if we could just find out many pounds per square inch of plates being pressed are needed.. I've seem some hand driven screw type presses with 4x5 inch heated plates for around $250.. There's such a lack of real information... We live in a world of more is better,,

i've been throwing away everything but the flowers. i don't smoke or vape anything i just do 1600mg a solventless decarboxylated cannabis flower extract orally daily. like eating half an oz of flower daily. don't really need to smoke, can't feel it.
i could squash cured flower but i'd still have to decarboxylate and u lose about 20% weight.
i decarboxylate first cured whole flowers because it speeds up the "pickling' of my flowers and keeps them from getting mold in my humid climate.
plus because i'm decarboxylating the whole flower in an ardent nova or similar terpene trapping device, i think the terpenes stay with the flower.

i'm definitely gonna try one of these bubble machines on next harvest. u just throw fan leaves, stems, and trim in? i figure if a get anything from the stuffi throw away now, that will pay for the labor and machine.

do people wash flowers too? i'm in the process of learning how to press out pure thc.
i'm not a fan of cbd. it will def ding ur liver.

u can use a curling iron, parchment paper and rachet clamps.
but if ur into production, like i like to press out a huge batch of extract at once to keep the psychoactiviity of the delta-11 thc consistent.
so i'll stuff 30 bags at one oz each and hope i get 3-4 grams of ready to eat extract out of each filter bag.

as far as pressure needed at the plates, u will bust the filter bags before u run out of pressure with the dabpress 12ton. i use about one third of it's force. dabpress has some tips on their website too.
my bvv 30ton press with 6x8 plates i use for repressing my once pressed folded over bags.
the reason i like the dabpress is because pressing rosin requires a bit of finesses and the dabpress has a manual pump that give's more control than the foot treadle hooked up to a compressor. plus it's loud indoors.
smaler plates and less pressure just means pressing smaller amounts.
i switched because i couldn't ship in 190everclear anymore and trying to eliminate some chlorophyll.

oh yeah, if ur pressing bubblehash u can use dabpresses driptech feature where u tilt it down and the resin drips out. doesn't work on my flower. bubble hash is alot more watery.

I'm small time grower, only for myself and a couple friends.. I inheiretid a small Tami awhile back, it only does 60 grams at a time.. Does a good job for it's size.. I also have one of those bubble bag washing machines.. Both work fine but looking for a quicker turn around, thinking maybe a small press would do for me.. Being lazy, press and smoke sounds like a simpler way to go..
