I think I added too much Perlite.

I put 5 quarts in a 17 gallon tote. But it looks like too much.

It'll be fine.

Thanks. First time for me trying to mix my own soil.

Perlite is light so it tends to "float" to the top when you water. What else is in your mix?

I had some Burpee soil that worked great and isn't available anymore. I read the bag ingredients and came up with what I mixed.

Looks fine.

Don't put a seed(ling) directly into it. If the fragile roots encounter a perlite clump they might get air pruned. For established plants this is not a concern, might even be helpful.

I would load it with myco.
They like the nooks and crannies of coarse perlite / pumice.

Mycorrhizal fungi can thrive in the porous structure of pumice or perlite , as it provides ample surface area and oxygenation for their growth. The nooks and crannies of pumice offer an ideal habitat for mycorrhizal colonization and symbiotic interaction with plant roots.
