I need help with GH nutes please + rep for the help

Hey I need help figuring out how much to feed. I've been going by the nutrient calculator on the GH website. I've followed the directions to a tee but when I'm finished I get a different ppm than what is listed on the site. When I'm finished I should be at 1080 ppm but I'm getting 1620 ppm. I've got a Hanna grow check meter and it's brand new and calibrated. I used a set of digital scales to measure out everything and they are on the money. I'm using distilled water with 10 ppm.

What I would like to know is this a common problem and should I just dilute the mix till I get 1080 ppm?

I've been going by this chart. I'm a total noob and I need to get this under control. Any help would be greatly appreciated and +rep for anyone who helps me out.

If everything else looks good I would dilute the mixture to get the correct PPM that you want. Then recheck the PH and make sure it is good. Aside from that, I find the nutrient calculators to be off when converting over. I have had to play around with my Dutch Masters to get it right. As the plants start t9o grow you can read the plants and know when they want more or less. Good Luck.

Thanks for your help. I just did exactly that. I was waiting around for a reply but I was right in the middle of a res change and I couldn't wait. I've been noticing that those calculators are way off and I've been adjusting the mix for quite some time now. :wall: Next time I'm just gonna lower the amount of gallons I put into the calculator till I find the perfect balance.

+ Rep for ya

Peace.

Sadly, trial and error is the way to go. Sometimes I think the calculators lean towards having you push more nutrients than needed. Good luck with your grow.

That's so true my friend. I'm a total noob and this is my first grow. I've been through a lot of trial and errors as of late. I've been giving my plants the wrong mix of nutes for a few weeks now. They were experiencing stunted growth until I figured out that they had a nitrogen deficiency. I'm back on track now and they got a huge growth spurt last night.

Anyway thanks for helping me out! If you got the time stop by my journal and have a look. I can always use more advice from an experienced grower. I'll be posting new pics tomorrow.:weed:

We were all noobs at some point. 80% of what I know, I learned here. The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.

stupid question but what is your water source and I am sure you subtracted already. How do your plants look? I use the gh nute calculator too and if I go over ppm I get fried looking plants. Just using the calculator with every res change and letting it pretty much slide has given me awesome results. I jst did a res addback and was 600 or so too high too and the girl looks fried. From now on I just addback plain water and do a res change whenever the calculator says.

What up man, I just bought a water distiller and I very pleased with the results. The result is 10 ppm when it's finished distilling. I would recommend one to anybody that has a smaller res. I have a 5 gallon res and go through about 10 gallons a week and it takes 2 days to make what I use in a week. They are also about half the cost an RO filter.

As far as the GH nute calculator goes I've learned to not go by what is says on their website. You can still use their recommended doses but be sure to dilute the solution down to a safe level because their results don't jive with mine.

I also think they're a lot of debates when it comes to topping off your res when it starts to get low and whether to use add backs or not. I usually don't do the add backs but I do however top off my res with pH adjusted nute mix the same mix I do at a full res change. I try to wait 2 weeks before I do a full res change.

I am in no way an expert and take everything I say with a grain a salt because I'm still a noob to this game and I don't feel I have enough experience to help others just yet.

If you want check out my journal. I've got lots of pictures of my setup and and the distiller that I use in action with pics of all the junk that's left over after the distilling process.

Hope this helped you out some and good luck with your grow.

P.S my journal is located in my Sig.

Peace.:eyesmoke:

Yah...just remember its ML PER GLLN
Thanks for the chart Booie but I've run across this chart as well. I went ahead and saved it though.

When you mix it up according to that chart does the ppm come out to what is listed in the chart?

I'm right where I wanna be now too. I've figured out a way to get the results I'm looking for. My plants or going crazy right now. I just posted some updated pics last night in my journal and they are already bigger this morning. Hell I'm probably going to start flowering soon.

I appreciate all the info and I'm gonna throw you some rep. Thanks again and if you got the time, stop by my thread and check out my grow op.

Peace :eyesmoke:

So what does that exactly mean? Your not planning on using any flora grow? Could you please explain?
The dude that made up the formula says that anything else but the GH micro and bloom is snake oil.

This guy really knows his shit, he's been around.

Im gonna trust what he says, and strickly grow with 8ml of gh micro, and 16 ml of gh bloom, per gallon and that is all.

I bought the full line, but I think Ill wait on using any of the extras.

Anymore questions, send me a pm :)

Look up Lucas method. That is what Closet is talking about. 2-1 micro to bloom then switch for flower 1-2. Way easier than the system they say and better results. Good luck man!!!
