I need help, getting ahead of myself.

I've been smoking for years, and I thought it was time to try and attempt to grow my own.

For the past few days I've been reading and reasearching on what I need to buy, lights, tent, carbon filters, etc.

The cost of what is recommended came up to $450.00 - I want to grow 2 plants at a time.

This is everything I have - please tell me if I can replace anything.

Now, I can't do DIY - because I'm not handy - but with 2-3 plants do I really need 400W or can I do 250?

With HPS, you need about 40-50W/sqft for a good sized yield. That tent is 8sqft, so 400W/8sqft = 50W/sqft.

250W would put you at about 31.25W/sqft, so you'd need some extra side lighting.

I've got away with passive intake in a 4x4 tent with a 5 inch extractor and a 600w HPS. A couple of oscillating fans inside the tent to keep the air moving and avoid hot spots

No need for intake. Ditto on oscillating. You can skip the fan controller.

I would recommend getting a good PH pen.

At some point you will need additional nutes. Also, Fox Farms is hot for seedlings. You can use miracle grow seed starter wiht some extra perlite for that. Avaiable at any home depot.

No do not use miracle grow seed starter, It burned 8 of my seedlings. I 50/50 peat moss/perlite for seedlings with no fail.

If you are already getting the ocean forest and perlite, you can mix those to get a fluffy diluted soil mix for the seedlings. You won't need much. You could also put that dirt in a 2 gallon pot and flush some of that food out to make it a weaker dirt for starting in. I would steer clear of miracle grow.

I have never had a burnt seedling or clone with MG Seed Starter. I won't touch anything else of theirs. Like I said, I add in about 30% extra plain perlte and don't overwater.

I have an Apollo tent and light kit. The tent is very nice and sturdy. I have (probably) about 50 pounds hanging.

The light kit is nice also. I got unlucky and my ballast spoiled in about 3 weeks of use. The seller honored the warranty and sent me a new one (hasn't arrived yet). Only complaint is the bulbs, the MH is 4200k and the HPS is 2700k
