a LOT cheaper than you can in the U.S. maybe 1/4 of the costs as opposed to the U.S. once you get setup. obviously you gotta buy a house and car or rent a place i guess. it's REALLY REALLY cheap. relatively no property taxes, low income and corporate taxes, very low wages for employees, low medical costs, low food costs, etc...

That's kinda what I figured. Been kicking the idea around a bit lately. Thinking I can just fly back to the us for the summer every year and work for 3 months and make around $11,000 which is the average salary per capita income Costa Rica. How much is a modest house and plot these days? It's hard to trust the online real estate agents.

i live on the pacific side. much nicer and much more developed. nicer beaches and more rainforest.

never trust real estate agents in costa rica. it's not a regulated industry and those guys are the biggest crooks. the first few years i was here i had guys trying to pull scams on me all the time and there was no way to legally prosecute them. they will try and sell you a property for 50% more than the owner is asking and then pocket the difference. all kinds of schemes. i've sold plenty of properties through them but i don't let any shady business go on. i've never bought one through them though. always dealt directly with the owner.

price depends on location. if you are willing to be in the central valley you can find a nice house on an acre for $50k. you'll be in a cooler climate and about an hour from the beach though. just kinda all depends how far you are from a "town" (bank, grocery store, etc...)

i travel a lot though too. i spend about half my time here in Costa Rica. of that time 50% is here at my house in Manuel Antonio and the rest is at 1 of 4 places on the west coast where i have an investment property. the other half of the year i'm travelling for work. usually Honduras, Cuba, Nicaragua, Panama, New York and Cali.

Those orca screw upfishing like they do for salmon up here?
we don't see them that often. i've never heard of anyone losing a fish to them. has made me weary of getting in the water though. lol. i don't mind sharks, whales, huge fish, etc... orca's are a WHOLE other deal.

it's not like that here. you won't get kidnapped or anything. non violent crime is common though. they love breaking into homes and cars and stealing shit. the only violent crime is amongst the drug dealers and it never spills out onto the streets. you rarely hear of murders.

you could definitely live off your land. raise some chickens and goats. couple cows. plenty of veggies and fruit. no problem. not much opportunity for employment though. you'd have to find something or start something yourself. most business' here hire locals cause it's much cheaper. you'd need to start or buy a business. maybe find a developer or expat with a business and work for him. slim pickings right now though. economy is tough.

i need a lot of female friend.
like shooting fish in a barrel buddy...:eyesmoke:

You saying you look like a seal... LMAO:lol:
i've seen them throw a 6' thresher shark around for fun. saw them play with a manta ray that was the size of a car for 2 hours. i don't think i look like a seal. i just don't think they worry about anything in the ocean.
