I keep burning my leaves from the light do those leaves turn green again?

I'm really bad with the lights.
I try to get them as close as possible, but obviously I still leave about 2 inches. It seems these plants grow in random spurts. Like yesterday during their light cycle they only came up a fraction. Than at night they seemed to have spurted about a whole inch (they were touching the lights this morning all though they were off).

So for some reason I'm expecting them to do more growing at night than the day. Postition the lights about 1 1/2" when I turned them on this morning. Come back from work and one of my plants had not just grown into the light, but was pushing the whole top 2 leaves into it. I move the light away and the entire leaves are brown and burned. I remember burning a tip before, which turned green the next day. But will those severely burned leaves come back? It doesn't look possible, but I'm curious because I hate when my babies look unhealthy like that. Should I water them maybe? Will that help push some water into the leaves?

just leave the light a little higher then for the growth spurt

no i doubt the burtn leaves will fix themselves just leave them anyway

and yeah plants like to strech a little during the dark period

A burnt leaf will not heal itself sorry. Take killer vanillas advice for sure.

your light is good at 20 inches when they are that young...a little light crazy?
Are you sure? That far? I was thinking once they got like 6-8" that I was losing most of my light, so I just thought 1-2" would make them grow a ton faster. I guess I thought CFLs were a lot weaker than they really are.

But I think I might just do 4" for now. I don't like the 2-3" inch recommendation because newbies like me can easily burn their plants just by going to work. I've manage to keep my leaves almost perfect up untill this point it just sucks that the top of 1 plant looks like a massacre now. I'll go take a pic right now just so you guys can look at the damage..

ps. the reason the 2-3" recommendation really confuses me is the movement of the actual leaves. First thing in the morning the leaves are droopy from sleeping. So I put the light on, and not only will the plants grow an 1" sometimes more, but the leaves themselves seem to slant upwards about a whole nother inch or 2. I keep forgetting once I turn the lights on the plants are gonna slant upwards AND grow. So 4" maybe even 5" seems good for now.

Ok you can see the new leaves that just came in are all brown on the edges, and even the leaves UNDER those got hot enough to burn the tips.

So I'm absolutely keeping them 4-5" for now. Also I'm curious about the dark green leaves I see on a lot of plants, is that fertilizer that does that or just the age of the plant? These plants are almost 5 weeks old and I'm thinking I should learn how to fertilize them. I was originally planning on only doing it a couple of times, but it seems some people here fertilize every week. Seems like overkill but I'll go to some reading.

That plant will be fine, before you know it, you wont even see those burnt up leafs. 2-3 inches is optimal for CFL's

yah, keep your cfl's close, not no 20 inches like that one poster said.. and no, the burnt leaves will stay burnt.. a lot of times i will just snip off the burnt end of the leaf and leave the unburnt part alone that way i don't have to look at all that ugly and i am still retaining the healthy part of the leaf..

If you dont know what you're talking about, please dont advise other growers. A CFL 20 inches away from the plant will do nothing. You are correct in keeping it as close as possible without burning.
