I Have a Pump and Filter Question and I Want Your Opinion

i just got this big pump, and i think that it is a 4000/gph or bigger, and all the plumbing out of a hottub and was wondering if i can use the filter that goes with it as well here is a photo my question is can i use the filter for a hydro setup and not worry about my nutes getting blocked by the filter or should i just leave the filter out of the whole thing. any help or ideas would appreciated thanks.

As long as the filter is not a charcoal or activated carbon type it will be fine. I use filters that are 1micron. Put a recirculation bypass on the pump/filter output back to your reservoir with an adjustable valve thou. You have a big pump there...

are you irrigating the desert or is the size of that pump deceiving?

yeah its a big pump i don't know if it is a 4000gph or what but it was out of a hot tub and it was FREE. The thing i was going to with it was make a out door green house to grow our vegetables for the summer. And then another question i have is i was thinking of putting it on a rheostat and seeing if it would be adjustable. if i can do it that way i would use it indoors

That pump looks like overkill for a hydro application, unless you're working with a large scale op. If it's crucial for high-pressure outlets like jets and nozzles to remain unclogged, then filters are necessary, but if it's just for flow as in running it through a chiller, I wouldn't have a filter.

Use a tee output after the pump. put an adjustable valve on one side back to your reservoir. The more you open the valve the less pressure and flow that goes to your garden. If thats an AC induction motor... Dont use light dimmers etc. You need a adjustable type frequency controller. Expensive ! Compared to a plumbing tee and a globe or ball valve.

ok ok on the pic right after the pump there is a elbow fitting with a fitting in it that has a orange hose. i was going to run a hose back to my res with a manual valve in it so i don't need to put a aerator in it
