I got my digital 400 watt HPS with cool tube for under 200. He said his room is 2' by 3'
If you want to properly light up that area than you need a 400 watt HPS. You are telling him to buy a shitload of CFL's which will probably end up being close to or more than 400 watts. You want him to use the same amount of electricity to not properly light up the space. Great tip dude :-|
well first of all, i was talking about him using about 200 watts to grow, i dont believe hes trying to fill his with plants he said just a couple, so cfls, low and around the plant would work well for his grow actually.
using 200 watts is half of 400.. idk if u know that..
and buying 200 watts of cfls will cost maybe even 1/4 of that. once again.. 5,000 posts, think u would know that..
the idea that he has only one flourescent bulb makes one think "hmm maybe hes not trying to spend a couple hundred bucks on a beginner grow"
hes not doing a sea of green, a 400 is unecessary for his small grow, but a 150watt hps would b cheaper to buy, cheaper in electricity, and would fullfill his every needs

so if im leaving bad tips, telling him that he can still be cheap and efficient, the fact that u left a tip telling him to mutliply his costs of equipment and electricity is nothing short of useless.

no shit a 400watt hps would b better than a 20 watt flouresecnt bulb.
geez who woulda ever thunk it

yes he would multiply his costs and electricity usage....
As well as his end harvest. If he wants to grow plants with not enough light that is fine by me
I am growing inside my house does that mean i should write the dimensions of the house instead of the room I am growing in?
By saying his space is 2' by 3' tells me that he wants to use all of it. I find it to be a waste of money to use CFL's to light a space like that, it will be cheaper than an HPS but it will not light it as well
Buy the CFL's to replace all of your old incandescent light bulbs and then get an HPS. CFL's save you money outside of the growroom. Being cheap on the most important aspect of indoor growing is not a good way to get good results

hey u dont need to tell me brother i have a 600watt hps lighting up 2 plants while a 150watt hps trains my jack herrers for LST..

not trying to fight, i was just trying to say he sounds like he wants it cheap. so i told him a cheap method, if i thought he wanted to maximize his yeilds regardless of price, i would tell him to cut his ceiling of the closet out, put a giant box fan in there and add a 600wat lol

sorry for the thread hijackingg bro, but shit just happens sumtimes..

wiith a million and one diff ways to grow, arguements r bound to pop up on ur thread every now n then..

but dude, its probably a ph problem.. get a ph test kit.. thats all.. test the water that ur giving it... if its above 6.5 get some ph down or add a source of nitrogen to it.

and if its not a ph problem, then just stick it out, watch the new growth coming in, and if it looks better, then its fine, if it continues, then seek additional help. could just b a small mutation.

Yeah OP there is some nicely priced pH meters on ebay, being in control of the pH is a huge part of growing whether in soil or hydro (esp. hydro)
Test the water going in and then test the runoff

Ok, so maybe my denting was there before and I just didn't notice it since I have so many plants in such a small space (was 38 in a 3x3 tray). My PH is fine now, and the denting IS on lower leaves. I'll keep an eye on it though and see. If it continues I can tell you right now it wont be because of PH. Mine is sitting at 6.4 in the soil last I checked. I'll calibrate my pen and test run off again the next time I water, just to be sure. However the last two times I have done this my PH has been 6.2 - 6.4

So unless it's from before (PH went up to 7.8!), I have no clue what is going on.
