I got some noob questions

started 3 clones in a 3x3 tent about 24 days ago. Still in Veg. Been tying down branches. Topped a few times. Running a platinum led p450. Strains are (2) khalifah kush and (1) sfv og. My questions...

1) in the beginning guy at grow store told me 3 gal smart pots would be fine all the way thru. Day 24 I'm not so sure. They aren't very tall but is it too late to transplant to say a 5 gal smart pot?
- if I do transplant should I stick with same brand soil? (Roots organic). Or could I switch to something a little 'hotter' at this point?

2) as I'm coming close to the one month veg mark I'm wondering how much I can expect these to grow flowering. They are all 3 indica dominants but 3x3 tent I'm trying to plan ahead.

3) guy at grow shop also told me I should flush real well before starting my flowering cycle. True?

Thanks for any help. Had a slow start with these girls but I do believe they are coming in strong now.

1. Yes you can transplant It into a 5gallon. Its still in veg so its perfect time to do it imho. You can transplant into whatever soil you choose.
2. Dont know exactly how much those strains stretch but usually they get 2-3x as big.
3. No dont flush before flowering that is just asking for n deficiency in early flower.

1. My general rule of thumb is one gallon per month of growing, so if you veg for one month a 3 gallon could work. If you have the space I would always give your plants a little more breathing room by going with a 5 gallon. It is not to late to transplant but I would do it soon because you want your plants to establish a root base in the new 5 gallon before flipping into flower. Your 3x3 is small so flipping soon is more than likely a must. You can stick with the same brand and possibly have to amend through flower. You can make or buy a super soil that would likely finish the plant for you through flower.

2. You can expect them to stretch a bit during the first few weeks of flower. How much they stretch is dependent on the genetics and what you are feeding them. Your indica's are more than likely 8-10 week finishers, and with a 3x3 it's gonna be tight with a one month veg.

3. Flushing is a term that is thrown around quite a lot. I never flood my plants with water, I do a 20% runoff every few waterings of plain R/O water to prevent salt build-up. I also run drip clean which helps. Doing this technique has never given me salt issues and no need to "flush" in large amounts during the plants life. Some people believe that you MUST flush the last X amount of days before harvest, which is complete bullshit. You "flush" when you burn the crap out of your plants. "When it's brown, flush it down".

Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps. :peace:

Go ahead and transplant to a bigger pot might even try a 7 gallon. It's up to you on soil. Yes you can go with something hotter.

When it comes to weight my theoretical theory shown as 6^pound will get you your weight. I've gone ahead a did the math for you, it comes out to about a pound.

You should give it a good flush before switching over to flower cycle yes. Do you plan on using any nutes?

I bought a bloom base from my local shop he recommended. Also purchased a very small bottle of AN big bud I was planning to use. Trying to keep this as simple as I can as it's my first grow in 10 years.

I appreciate the advice. I would have added pics but I'm on my way to work. I super cropped one plant yesterday for the first time. I feel one month veg may not be enough. Still small imo. I do plan to throw a scrog in there pretty soon.

In what reason u base ur recommendation of flushing before starting the flowering stage?

Yea thats what i want to know. Also u have to be careful with the advice u get here. Some people just repeat stuff that they hear but don't have any scientific proof to back it up or at least some comon sence.,. The only reason u will flush before flowering is to get rid of any salts build up IF ANY., And thats if u feed heavy without any run off. And that's 'MAYBE'.

Whatever your using if any nutes during veg contains salt and other chemicals. It's a good idea to get rid of the extra N from veg fertz, and get all the build up off of the roots so they absorb more of what you want during the switch. Newer growers tend to go heavy on the feed so a good flush can't hurt. Wether or not it's necessary depends on what you're using. Of course everyone is going to have a different opinion and use what works for them.

Works for me.

I grow in 5 gallon pails and bags of pro mix. I never "flush". I dont use salt fertilizer, but when I did, I grew in rocks.
the directions of every fertilizer I used naturally reduced the ppm's during the last thirty days of flowering to zero, if you'll wanna call that flushing, I guess I flushed in hydro. my peaches and grapes dont get flushed outside. they get a little less light, a little less bird poop and they taste great too. reminds me of "curing". taken from the tobaccy industry. those guys feed salts to the day of harvest, then are forced to "cure" with smoke and age until the excess nutrients ferment and are consumed, making the product less harsh.
Normal fert'd mj here is delicious a week or two after harvest as soon as the twigs snap. A heavily fed till the end plant is not, unless its cured for long periods of time, like in a jar, burped, over and over.

I grow organic., But when i used to grow with synthetic fertilizers i always feed nitrogen until the 3 week of flower and then switch to flower nuts., If i cut the nitrogen after the flip u run into early fade like in week 5. So imagine if u flush soil of n at light switch plus cut the grow nuts at light flip u definitely will run into early fade., Thats why a lot of new growers are like HELP early fade in week 4-5 or i need help leaves are yellow in early flower. BECAUSE OF THAT REASON... Now im not even gonna argue that! Thats a proven fact!!

Smart pots are difficult to transplant out of. If I were still using them, I would only use it for the final flowering pot.
