hypothetical question

Assuming time isnt an issue, and conditions are ideal... roughly how big can a plant get in a 5 gallon smart pot in soil before it gets root bound?
Currently got some gorilla glue #4 about 6 weeks from clone, and they are getting massive. Trying to fill out my 5x5 grow tent by trellising. But I want to know how far I can push them in veg before im in trouble. Let's assume I need about 65 days of flowering time.
Anyone?

I just tonight gave a sour diesel plant to a friend in a 5 gal grow bag. 59 days from germination. Grown outdoors in a super soil, I was shocked when I picked it up and could hear and feel roots tearing that had grown into the ground. I'm not exactly sure how close to being so root bound that it hindered the plant yet. But definitely some serious roots. I know too, it depends on what and how the plant is being fed. Mine was a super soil with mykos added and nothing else but water. Hopefully that gives you some insight.

The parents had them as I grew up. I bred a cpl pair for some years. I've owned Rotts for around 30 years.

The boys have gone to college and the family and Iost our most favorite Boy the year before the youngest graduated.
We're taking some time off from the dog world while we catch up on some well deserved Vacations and "our" time.
I suspect the wife will get dog lonely by this fall and give in to my requests for a new 4 legged partner (She dearly miss's Dufus).

Yeah Dufus....He earned the name as a puppy. He went on to be the smartest and most easily trainable Rott we ever owned.
I miss him so!!! Yeah, another winter. I can't face another new one yet....sigh.....

Pretty, dark tans and not the light ones. Good loose skin and great stance/composure of yours in that pic!

Dufus was a kind of genetic miss. He was all black (you could see the normal dark tan marking in the sun) and had a white star on his chest. He was not a runt, nor ignored by his mother. He was the one left after selling his siblings. Had to convince the wife we should keep him. Turned out to be her best outdoor buddy.....The stories I could relate. Yeah, next year..

Id love to see some pics if u have em.
Im assuming youll get another rottie,I muself wouldnt have any other breed.super smart amd easy with training.the gfs German n her parents had em their whole lives so once I met theirs I had to have one.id love a doberman aswell but they require far too much exercise so ill stick with my rotties n 3 walks a day.
Our fellow was the runt n turned out to be the tallest rottie ive seen lol wed picjed him as he was the last one n we kbew if we didn't take him hed either be put down or used as a bate dog. His hips arent the best but hes such an amazing dog we're only gonna take runts from now on as the gf is a qualified dog trainer and runts need alot of positive reinforcement n socialising which I know 99% of owners aren't willing to put in the time even though the breeds super eager to please

I do get where u going with the hols, when we went to Germany a few months back it cost us 400e for the week with the cats included but when we got back wed the house to ourselves for the day and it was so fucking empty..so much so we're planning on getting another when our lads around 8 so he can learn from our lad(extremely well trained)

As far as how longggg I've kept plants in veg from feburary up until they go oitside in may they get huge n do great ONLY DIFFERENCE is I do transplant once I feel it is necessary so not sure whatsgood with the roots don't smart pots "air prune" roots?

Our Rotts always went where we did. Meeting people and other dogs is very important for a breed that large and with that power and especially for their reputation. Show the world the truth. Loving, fun and loyal....right there with gentle and tolerant of other dogs and people......

"Smart pots" create super dense root balls with a rootless zone around them, of about an inch or 2.
This creates a new problem. The umbrella effect. You water it and the water rolls off the rootball and out the sides and bottom of the root free area. You have to then water more and therefor loose more. Letting it sit to soak up the run off or pouring run off back into the plant is not the best idea..

This root ball gets so dense that after a normal watering and the plant was harvested. I cut the rootball in half. The core was still dry..

I use plastic five pails, one gallon grow bags, cups, 55 gallon drums too. roots are always hanging out the bottom for as long as two years here with no issues, except more frequent watering. I dont like smart pots, and did see the same as @Dr.Who with the dry roots. I dont see that in any other container though. I contend rootbound indoor marijuana is a myth, after two years in same container, roots dangling for a foot....c'mon

edit=cept with poor substrate and certain pots

I've had Rotts (and Dobes) as well and couldn't agree more. They were real good barometers determining "good vs bad guys" when you meet strangers. I never went wrong trusting their instincts.

Seriously?! Is that bad I really like the results of my fabric pots I never knew they cold create a completely dif problem. .. how often does this happen

Feeding a plant what it needs and enough to carry you to the next watering. Can make a real big plant in a small pot.. They loose nothing to being in that pot if your feeding it right.......
Been there, done that. Mostly not on purpose....
