Hydroponic system with shortest vertical profile?

Hi, I'm setting up a grow space that is only 55 Inches tall. So I need to minimize vertical spaces in any places that I can.

I was planning to do soil with 6 inch pots. However I was contemplating today, and thought to ask:

If anyone has a solution for a hydro setup that would be 6 inches tall or less?

Space is 4x4 ft. I have done some DWC a long time ago, and that is likely the easiest/smoothest for news like me. But would it work with this short vertical profile? How? What kind of unique containers/materials would I use?

Issue with hydro is increased growth

That said

A low profile tub, as I believe was mentioned to you before, is a great option
Veg less, flip sooner

Now $100000000 question

Is this your 1st grow, well 1st in awhile

At 55" that tent can sit up on sawhorses like this

and arrange a base for your floor, you then have room underneath and raises your tent so you can work on plants better.
Keep your reservoir at 19C or don't do DWC. So many ways to do it it's better to look at what you should NOT do when reading the forums.

What I mean is if you find a forum thread that is showing a technique you like, make sure to have look at what the original posting person is saying after he posted his technique. 9 times out of 10 you will see the poster going on about his root rot or just drops off the forums.

The whole vertical grow thing looks like quite difficult for a beginner. Flooded tube sounds cool but I guess it would be hard to pull off for the same reason.

First grow in a while. Havent dones DWC for 15 years...
A low profile soil tub right? Seems like hydro would be hard to pull off with slow profile of 6 or less inches.

So is this a 55” tent or the space is only 55” tall?
55 Inch tall storage compartment on the side of a house.

Don’t see a problem. Just put your lights vertical. Oh and don’t mess with dwc. Stick to Rdwc. I went 15 years without growing. I started in rdwc way back when lol. When I started back up again it was like riding a bike. Don’t over think it. It’s just growing a plant.

I use 6" under bed totes...2 plants in each 2 x 4 space...40 inches in height limit. (Picture is a rough draft)
big box plan.png

Everything is inside the totes so less risk of leaks.

1 large box with 4 smaller boxes in it...perpetual.

RDWC looks cool but would be difficult with my vertical limitation, it seems that will be great for a future project with more space.

Start from the top down and use linear strip lighting

Rockwool slabs would work well here, drain to waste especially. https://www.grodan.com/en-usa/product-overview/grodan-uni-slab/?selectedCat=data sheets 101
Linear strip lighting like the following? To supplement?

Wow thats very cool! Love how you did that. It looks not easy to do all the piping and such but you did it very well.

NFT drain to waste.
In that case it would look like this?

Could I do this with 6 inches between floor to the top of the medium ?
I would be putting the outflow into the literal drain so that would reduce some vertical space.
What kind of size basket would be hold the tree? a 3 inch tall one, to leave some room for roots below to spread around?

I'm not very experienced at this, trying to put a system together myself so I know what you're going through.
Does the layout work for your routine when you have to work on it? The scrog net can hold the weight but more important would be a clean and pathogen free environment for your roots so laying this out on the ground out the side of your house is probably asking for disease.

Try having the grow tote on the floor> grommet low on the side> tubing with a small outboard pump leading to the rez> smaller tube up high on rez to top feed. Pump on timer set on short on cycle so as not to over flood the tote.

This will require some trial to adjust before putting plant in

Thanks for sharing ideas guys. This is all a bit too advanced for me: building unique hydro setup. At first I will experiment with six in tall grow bag/airpot extra wide. Thats so easy.

Maybe for future projects, I can devise some fancy ways to do hydro in this small space, based on these interesting ideas. I've recently read about Hempy style which sounds interesting too.

Ya that will be easy. Good luck.
