ooooooooooookay so heres my question..
there are a lot of mediums for hydro grows in place of soil..
my mom has this fuuuuuuckin big hydroponic system at our old house. the medium used was this blackish gray sand.
is this good shit to use for my grow????

yeah i hear theyre great, but i have yet to find them in my location...
so i have to revert to another medium..
im thinkin of trying coco husk..
what about river bed rocks??????
or the bark used for orchids???

I would not try Lava rock. It breaks down over time releasing toxic levels of sulfur and other unwanted minerals into the solution. They are also not ph stable. how coarse is the sand. If it has been used you are going to need to sterilize it. Sand work ok for a variety of different crops and I am sure it could work just fine you may just have to fine tune the watering, sand holds a ton of water. search online for more info on hydro using sand for more tips and info. Do not use bark, breaks down to fast, and coco work great, depending of the system used. Good Luck.

just use rockwool and call it a day. cheap and easy to find. good luck man. a 4 inch cube can grow a tree

Or if you have the river rock available rinse well and there you go. Cheap and will work great. If you have a small grow keep it simple to keep the pathogens at bay.
