Hey guys I'm trying a new light set up. The goal is a combo of HPS/MH and LED for my 4 x 4 in a cold musty ass basement. Anyone with hybrid experience have any advice or some recommendations of what they use?

I use to run a air cooled HPS hood with two single cobs for a side light.
That was in a 3x3.

I have now changed to all Cob led. I pulled the glass out of a air cooled HPS hood. Then replaced it with a sheet of 1/8” aluminum plate and mounted drivers and heat sinks inside.
This works great for summer growing. Heat is very controllable. In winter I have to dump the air from the hood back into the room the tent is in to keep it warm.

in a 4x4 I think a 600watt HPS and 4 cob leds in the corners of the tent would be sweet if you want to mix the two light styles.

you could the HPS in a cooled hood and duct the heat according to the seasons and temperature you are trying to achieve.

Then the led i you could just have the hung individual by heat sink.

many options. Alway fun building stuff

LED is a scam. Every grower that post good results (better than hps de) are bot/spam/advertisers.
China has hit you noobs so hard hahaha
Not all LEDs are created the same. Even with a bunch of stupid mistakes on my end, my 2 alibaba lights pulled 4.25 lbs of the good stuff and over a half pound more of smaller nugs. Had I not almost killed my plants several times I would have easily pulled over 2.5lbs per light. The goal for this run is 5-6lbs.

The only light related issue I had was a lack of far red and UV spectrum. The lights i ordered run at 4250K. Too much white and blue. This led to buds that didn’t frost up as much as I would have liked. Will be easily remedied by a couple of uv and far red supplemental bars that are $60 a piece.

I added a SolarCure uv setup to my leds. Only have 3weeks of flower on the last set of plants but definitely a increase in frost

Yeah, my buddy has the same LED China lights as me and he’s currently running a side by side with and without his supplemental bars and the difference is crazy. I’ll be ordering some soon.

I don’t know if it’s controversy or ignorance.
People don’t like change. They take it personally or something.

my Limited use with UV has shown promising results.

it’s the same price to put in a SolarCure setup as guys spend on a singe hood HPS bulb. So I don’t understand the hate to try something new.

Old heads are stubborn sometimes. Others fear change and progress. Unfortunately that fear of progression extends outside of the grow room sometimes.

My buddy found some bars on alibaba that have both UV and far red for $60 each. He added 2 per light/table and I’ll be doing the same. Here is his comparison results. Both pics taken on the same day. Same strain, same soil, nutes, etc. I know a lot of people only run the supplemental UVs a couple hours per day at different times. His just turn on and off with his main lights for simplicities sake.

This one has no supplemental bars.

I agree. I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Someone on here mentioned Agromax as another company in uv . They have good prices as well. I like the California light works one . But it’s on the pricier side. We will see . There are plenty of studies out there that show 15 percent increase ...

My buddy runs all those fancy expensive brand name lights. He’s got a Blackdog, California Lightworks and a Kind LED. They are really nice but I can’t justify the premium price. They cost 3x-4x more than an Alibaba light.

I got two 720w Alibaba bar lights shipped from China for less than half the price he paid for his single 480w Kind LED. I personally recommend them over all the fancy shit. His Kind came with UV and Far Red built in but for $120 more I’ll have the additional spectrum and 780w total compared to his 480w.

Far red and UV led chips are not awesome IMO.
Also buying Blackdog and kind leds is a waste. IMO people buying them have more money then knowledge of what makes a good grow light.

old tech that cost more then new tech. Not sure how they stay in business

Clearly you are ignorant. LED isn't a scam. Right now, I'm running both HPS and LED in my tent. Only have the HPS there because I need the heat during winter. It's been warm, so I think I will decrease my HPS wattage and increase my LED wattage next week.

I personally like my UV and Far Red separate from main lights, and given to the plants in limited blasts. 20 minute blasts of far red at beginning and end of day, and three or four 15-20 minute blasts of UV spaced out by an hour during mid-day.
