The most humane way of killing someone is the fastest.... it's pretty simple. Preferably one that doesn't mutilate the body, so a funeral (with open casket) can still be had.

so no wood chippers?

Ahhh...

@ Ayr0n and the need to be "humane"...

It is all about the person (s) who's responsibility it is to carry out these executions on behalf of the state.

The vast majority of Americans have never had to harm another, and those who have generally have done so in combat or in self defense.

Unless you want to put serial killers under the employ of the state to brutality kill the condemned, the vast majority would have a big problem with performing the act.

that's why in a firing squad, for instance, a couple of the guys are shooting blanks.

You would deny the pomp and circumstance and expense of a state murder? For shame.

How about a human sized mousetrap? You could put a giant piece of government cheese in the trap and wait for the noise of the sprung trap....if you build it they will come.

Bullet to the head, guillotine, or an O.D. on something like Valium.

All are cheap, effective and would mitigate suffering.

Yeah it is so bizarre that they use 3 drugs and one dose of the cocktail costs over $1000.
But we can put down a dog with $5 worth of barbiturates.

The FDA will not approve a regular drug be used like Valium. Doctors won't participate, The evil dead haunt the execution process. The evil un-dead run the horror show and cannot do the most simple things right, most likely on purpose.

Read Wambugh or any account of snipers if you think headshots are always clean kills.
With a Guillotine, it is quick but so quick the eyes still look around for a few seconds. Too Unusual.

Bullets to the brain stem however, here, here and here, is fairly instant (The Sopranos)

Instant death is quite illusive if it is to remain un-cruel and un-unusual.

Pistol to side of head is a lot different than a sniper kill....

Large blade to the brainstem, bullet to the brain stem... meh.... 6 in one, half dozen in the other....

I read that Alexander's Army practiced, field hospital euthanasia, by a large mallet pounded triangle blade under the 1st vertebrae. They would hold it so the soldier never felt the point on his skin, Lights out.

We are just more unusually and cruelly squeamish these days,

Ever wonder what happens to all the male baby chickens?

Oh wait, did someone say they wanted an open casket? Would a bucket work?

Theyre the other half in the production of future egg bearing chickens...otherwise they'd have "population issues" pretty quickly ;)

I heard a doctor say heroine would be the cheapest and the most humane. Our DEA and local PD have enough stockpile to use on every death row inmate that we currently have, so no cost. Heroine would actually give the soon to be dead guy extreme euphoria before he dies, so it's very humane.

I think he makes a good point.

Heroin OD is pretty creepy. He has never seen one and I have saved 2, with cold showers and endless walking them around to force the body to breath. Only the lactic acid build up in the muscles can do it. But, sometimes mouth to mouth is necessary.

You turn blue and look horrible.

But, think of all the volunteers. Something there, perhaps. :)
