Human Urine

Im sure this one will cause some waves. I use my own urine as fertilizer. Diluted to a 1/15 or 1/20 ratio is safest for potted plants. Although many brave folks go 1/10. Ive never heard of cannabis growers using urine except for myself. Ive used urine on other plants for years with great success.
Urine is a fast -release 11-1-2.5 fertilizer and is fantastic for vegetative growth. What are your thoughts???

And cow manure is waste that cows bodies don’t want but makes fantastic fertilizer. Veggie scraps are waste that humans dont want but build great compost. Carbon dioxide is waste that your body doesn’t want but plants love that...just sayin

There have been plenty of threads about using urine. Yes it will work. It's been used for centuries by people all over the world as a fertilizer source.

Having said that I will not be using urine to feed my plants. Nitrogen is so inexpensive and easy to source from other sources that I don't see any need to be playing with Pee. You can use human feces as well but I'm not collecting and composting my own crap. But if that's how you roll then keep doing it. It's nothing I or many other growers are going to do even though we know that it can be used as a fertilizer.

Have fun.

Youre certainly entitled to your opinion and yes, there are a few posts about the subject. However, nitrogen being “inexpensive” is relative and the production of nitrogen for chemical fertilizers causes a tremendous carbon footprint. As to “playing” with my urine, i certainly don't consider it that.
Many people do compost their own feces as part of a sustainable gardening system. Im not brave enough to do that, but i respect their choice to avoid buying miracle grow from Lowes when, like all organic materials all sorts of manure break down into fantastic soil. I sincerely appreciate the response and wouldnt have put it up if i didnt expect a little debate on the subject.

I didn't really give an opinion. I agree that urine can be used as fertilizer. I just stated why I'm not going to use it. I think most feel the same way. It doesn't mean what you're doing won't work as it's been proven that urine is a decent source of nitrogen. But for some of us that's just a bridge too far, a road we won't travel, etc...

If you want to use urine then use it.

Happy Growing.

It was the summer of 1724, and two groups of Japanese villages were arguing over a sewage issue in Osaka. The dispute was about waste removal, but not quite in the way one would imagine. The villages weren’t arguing about whose job it was to dispose of the filth, but rather about who had the rights to collect it, keep it, and use it. Notably, the village residents didn’t consider the substance filth. They used a special term, night soil, to describe the product they were after. And they were in dire need of it.

Urine collection also provides jobs. This guys making a living collecting it. Not the occupation I would want but if it feeds the family...

I think this is an apples -to -oranges comparison and absurd because im not using feces in the first place.
To your point of me peeing on a plant(which i dont do). Obviously i wouldnt do that because it will probably kill said plant due to nitrogen toxicity.

The old Marijuana Growers Guide by Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal referred to human feces as “night soil”. I mustve read that book 10 times. It was the only reliable resource back in the 80’s and 90’s. Thanks for your input. Good discussion.

The reality is that if people in some areas did not use human waste as fertilizer they would have diminished crop yields due to low soil fertility and people would go hungry. So it's a very important part of agriculture in many parts of the world.

I might joke about it but I do understand the importance it's played in agriculture for centuries.

Once the soil biology is built, its possible to perpetuate it but continuous applications of various chemicals and fertilizers is mostly asinine and will come back to haunt you. Resourcefulness is a rare quality not often appreciated here in the west.
