HTG...Buyer BEWARE!!!!!

FilthyFletch

Mr I Can Do That For Half
I have warned people about HTG for years now and even specifics about faulty ballasts and wiring. This just is an other person backing what i have said. Need a new 600 watt ballast let me know $185 shipped and I will guarantee it will be safe and work with full warranty. PM if you need digital balast, tents, or leds or whatever..

i just wanted to give a heads up to all htg supply customers and i know there are thousands. I have heard the complaints before and i always chimed in with my experiences with them, which for the most part have been good. However, i bought a new 600watt digital ballast about 4 months ago for another grow op i was starting. I just bought a "kit" because it was easy and cheap and i didn't have the time to go buy one in person. Big...big mistake.

Ok, what is the big mistake? Would buying one in person make the electrical cord not short out??

I discoverd a short in my electrical plug to the ballast on may 9th, which was a friday. I was able to screw with it enough that it came on and ran. I had to fiddle with it every night through the weekend to get it to work. On monday morning, may 11th, i called and explained the problem. They said no problem, they would send out a replacement that day and gave me a ups shipping lable to send the hosed ballast back. On friday may 15th i still had not recieved the replacement so i called them back.

Did they promise to send a new one, without receiving the bad one back?? This would be very hard to believe that any - and i mean any - company would just send out new equipment to a customer without getting the defective stuff back, imagine walking into walmart and telling them that the plasma tv you bought didn't work and you needed one right away to watch the big game - but oh, by the way, i'm not actually going to return the tv now, you'll just have to trust me....
I think what they probably said, is that they were sending the label to you to send the unit back.

I was told, "sorry, we are just now getting your ballast sent out and it is in the shipping going out today" (may 15th) so, i was a lil put off due to the fact i have to screw with it most nights just to get it to work, not to mention the possible fire hazard that it may be.

Today, may 21st, my ups deliverd his packages but nothing from htg. So, i picked up the phone and called them to see where in the hell my ballast was. At this point i was told that their policy had changed and that i would have to send the damaged ballast back before they would send the replacement. I was livid! I just wasted 10 days because of their poor communication and even worse customer service, not to mention the extra worry and time i spent trying to keep my grow "lighted".

Ok, so isn't the cord separate from the ballast. The one i have is just a standard computer cord that you can pick up anywhere for under $5. What damage was there to the ballast??

They did inform me that i could buy a new one and send the other back and they would credit my card back after they recieved their broken ballast. The money is not the issue. I don't have money to burn but i can certainly afford to "loan" them the money they need to send me a working ballast. Thats not the issue and thats what they don't understand.

If money is not the issue, why didn't you just do it. You contradict yourself first saying money is not the issue, then money is an issue??

Htg doesn't care one damn thing about you, as a customer. They only want your money. I was told this "policy change" was just enacted due to the people that don't return busted equipment. I understand that but they should be up front and honest about this on their website and other advertising. I should of been told this 2 weeks ago as well but as i said, they don't care about their customers.

You really don't convince me that htg does not care about customers, it sounds like there was a simple misunderstanding and you are trying to say these guys are bad??

I have spent over $5,000 usd with htg over the last couple of years buying things from reflectors to bulbs to nutes. The first time i ever buy any of their electronic equipment i get bent over and screwed. I spoke with tony at length about this and i told him i would burn htg in every forum i frequent.

So you threatened tony?? Dude, this is not the way to go through life. According to nearly everybody else on every grow forum everywhere, tony is a super guy that goes out of his way to help customers! Now, because you had some problem with an electrical cord, he sucks and his company sucks??

He was apologetic but he offered nothing other than thats just the way they are now doing business. I read lots of posts on here where other growers save every penny they can to buy equipment. They don't have a spare $300 laying around to replace something that was suppose to be under warranty. If you buy a ballast from htg supply you better have some extra money laying around or you will be without a ballast for 1-2 weeks.

Ok, so lets say you are tony... Somebody calls you and says they have a defective ballast. Normally with any other business on earth, the defective product must be returned before a new one can be shipped, but you would be willing to just ship the stuff without any way of assuring you would get the product back - or paid for it if you didn't???

Sorry for the long rant, i just wanted all htg customers to u8nderstand they no longer give a shit about you as a customer.
they no longer give a sh*t? How so?
My friend it sounds like you just made a mount everest out of a molehill! Don't be a hater, life is too short.

I see there are some other people coming to tony's defense here which is great!! And then i see some competitors that are jumping on the bash-wagon to try to sell their stuff.

That is YOUR opinion. You were NOT the one being lied to or laughed at and basically told a pack of lies. Lies...broken promises and failure to keep promises to your customers is not the type of company that I want to do business with. If you are cool with it, more power to you. I am putting this information out there for the community to use as it see's fit.

Ok, what is the big mistake? Would buying one in person make the electrical cord not short out??

No, it certainly would not. However, replacement and customer service face to face would certainly have a better chance at resolving the issues instead of a pack of lies that HTG Supply was feeding me.

Again, you are making assumptions that are 100% dead wrong. Maybe you should stick to the facts and not "ASSUME". Please re-read the post. I already explained that they said they would send me a new one (TWICE THEY SAID THAT) along with a shipping lable to send the defective one back.

Ok, so isn't the cord separate from the ballast. The one i have is just a standard computer cord that you can pick up anywhere for under $5. What damage was there to the ballast??

Again, you are trying to solve a problem without knowing the facts. It was the BALLAST. The short was at the plug recepticle...where it plugs into the actual unit, NOT the freakin plug.

If money is not the issue, why didn't you just do it. You contradict yourself first saying money is not the issue, then money is an issue??

No, money was NOT an issue. This problem is do to poor communication by HTG Supply. Why in the hell would I want to "give" more money to a company that had lied to me for 2 weeks? This was about principle and keeping promises, you know, living up to what the customer was told, just basic customer service. If they would of told me 2 weeks ago that they wanted the money upfront, I would of gladly done so and moved on. That was NOT the case and they lied and broke promises. I prefer to do business with companies that plainly state their rules and appreciate "earning" my business. A company that lies to their customers and laughs about their problems will NOT get my money. Feel free to give these types of companies all your money but don't expect most customers to as gulliable as you.

You really don't convince me that htg does not care about customers, it sounds like there was a simple misunderstanding and you are trying to say these guys are bad??

A pack of lies and broken promises is a bit more than a misunderstanding. Again, maybe you should work on your "comprehension" skills. I have plainly stated on many occasions that this thread was NOT about ripping HTG but rather factual information about how they DON'T resolve customer issues. All I can do is make this community aware of concerns as well as good results from vendors that we use. I report...you decide.

So you threatened Tony?? Dude, this is not the way to go through life. According to nearly everybody else on every grow forum everywhere, tony is a super guy that goes out of his way to help customers! Now, because you had some problem with an electrical cord, he sucks and his company sucks??

Again, your reading comprehension skills are about as bad as HTG's customer service. I have a business relationship with Tony. He has been the one that has sorted out the issues that I have experienced in the past. My "threat" to Tony was simply me telling everyone who would listen the type of customer service that I experienced with HTG. Is that a threat?...for telling the truth?...for giving facts about the company that he represents? Tony and my conversation was very civil but his hands were tied as to how he should deal with employees that lie and ridicule customers. Yes, Tony is a nice guy but he is nothing more than a glorified order taker. He can't do anymore than the jack-offs he hires to man the phones and lie to customers. Again, please don't run your mouth about what you have no clue. This was not about "a problem with an electrical cord. It was a defective product that when I tried to get customer service I was lied to...ridiculed and had company policies changed without being told. You are trying to defend a company without using the facts. May want to try facts instead of assuming the next time you defend or debate.

Ok, so lets say you are tony... Somebody calls you and says they have a defective ballast. Normally with any other business on earth, the defective product must be returned before a new one can be shipped, but you would be willing to just ship the stuff without any way of assuring you would get the product back - or paid for it if you didn't???

I would NOT send it back without payment. However, I would not of told a valuable customer that I was going to do something, TWICE, and then ridicule that customer when I did not live up to my promises. Tony did not ridicule but his lackeys did. I even offerd to give them my credit card #, AFTER the lies and broken promises to assure them it would be returned and was basically told that I could still rip them off. Again, you are barking up a tree that you have absolutely NO CLUE about. Please read the post. This is about customer service and taking care of people who pay your salary. Instead, you refuse to see the facts and assume I must be some hater. Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. However, you are in left field and are to busy falling all over yourself in your haste to defend your company.

My friend it sounds like you just made a mount everest out of a molehill! Don't be a hater, life is too short.

I can see why you would think that. You can't see the facts because you are trying to defend a company that lies to their customers. As I have PLAINLY stated many times on this thread that I was trying to let this community know about a vendor that some use and how they handled a customer that needed service. You are making up assumptions instead of looking at the facts. You appear to be the type of person than HTG Supply looks to when hiring employees. You can't see the forest for the trees.

So let me get this straight, you have spent 5 Grand with them in the past and this is the first mistake they have made?

So 1 mistake and you decide to go around bashing them? I am not sticking up for HTG but this sounds a little strange.

No, not at all. They have made several mistakes that took time and energy to resolve. I understood that and gave them my 100% support. However, when a company starts lying and ridiculing me, as a customer, I choose to take my business else where.

Every company makes mistakes. It's how they are resloved that seperates good companies from bad. This situation was handled very unprofessional and I wanted to let this community know what transpired.

Your brand new ID just to defend HTG? I always wondered if HTG does alot of promotion on this site and with your response, I would say .......YES!

It seems everytime someone has a bad experience with HTG, there is always someone to jump in with an explanation, defense, or excuse. I've heard enough to know not to deal with them till they improve there service, product line and employees. Hope they pay you for posting on a long weekend.

Had problems with HTG but it was always resolved and I think that's the point. I have dealt with other companies and never really got resolution. So for me, I will still deal with them.

dude read this seriously for some consumer fun like I do every htg thread until I saw that you spent 5000 dollars.

there are two ways to look at this

One way: you have spent 5000 dollars. That is a lot of business. You are just waiting for lighting to strike. The odds are bad that in this much dealing with one human entity, one place, somethng catastrophic was about to happen. Chalk it up to, "after this long, at least whatever catastrphic happened did not kill me". That is life.

way two: I am sure if you point out that 5000 dollars on a diferent day when the coffee was better or their pain meds have already kicked in then they will comply. I am always better as a sales man when the pain meds have kicked in. :)

Also, I dont know about you guys, but I am buying things from HTG now hoping they screw up. I want something like free ballast. lol. :)

also, I still cant beleive you guys buy anything other than a Lumatek. That is like buying payless shoes when you work at a footlocker. A bad digi is serious easy thing to find and the probs it could bring are an endless and long list. EMI, fire, no lumens, cut outs. Screw that.

Yea, it did not kill me and all I was out was time and effort. Not really catastrophic but a huge pain in the ass no less. However, I prefer to limit my energy to things that are somewhat productive. When I have a business that tells me BOLD face lies, I prefer NOT to do business with them. Again, it's just a choice and I prefer to spend my money with companies that are willing to earn my money. All HTG has going for them are cheap products and cheap prices. I have chosen to spend my money else where. Again, just my choice.

This was a very easy situation to handle. All they had to do was be honest with me and not ridecule my problems. I would have "loaned" them the money to make my warranty good IF...let me repaet...IF, they would of just been up front and honest with me from the begining. I have since replaced the POS ballast with a Sun Systems that has a 5 year warranty. I will now send the ballast back and when or IF they actually return it, I will give it away to a local Medical Marijuana user who needs the gear. I am done with HTG and will strongly suggest others to look else where for their growing needs.

I wish you all the luck in the world in your dealings with HTG...your gonna need it.

I haven't had a problem with their service. I have a big problem with their quality, as I got to take a look inside both of my T5HO fixtures when I took them apart to mount them to the wall. The build quality is POOR. Literally the only thing holding these arrays together was the paint and pressure from screws attached to pressure plates. THE ENTIRE ARRAY IS HELD TOGETHER WITH PINCHING SCREWS.

good service, horrible quality. I don't think I can justify buying from them again. I'll spend the extra $$$ on something I know isn't held together with the Archimedian equivalent of duct tape.

I personally have had good service from them. I understand what you are saying because they said that they would send it first, then changed their mind. But as far as a business requiring you to send the broken first then send the new after they receive it is pretty standard. Along with selling you another then refunding it. If they didnt already say they would send it first then i would say you had no argument but sense you talked to somebody incharge they should have made an executive decision, if a couple people read this post and dont buy from there then it had already cost them money.

ok let me chime in for a second cause im really not understanding something. I keep reading some people saying good and bad about HTG my real concern is you are jumping on the backs of HTG for products that have poor quality. is HTG making these products? Did HTG wire your ballast or use cheap parts or are yall just confussing the store with the manufacture? I started a thread about the bulb i brought from them blew out within less than a month. and some people said they had the same problem and that HTG were buying used bulbs or old bulbs now that would be totally HTG fault. I would really like to get down to who fault it really is. Maybe they are buying refurbished products and selling them as new. I do know that they did ask me to return the product and call them with the tracking number and once they verified the tracking number they sent my product out before they received the one I returned. Which i thought was pretty good customer service JMO

In my case, these are HTG-branded T5HO, obviously hand-assembled most of the locking washers weren't even flattened, the nuts to the screws weren't even fastened all teh way.)

I redid it myself now and it's much more sturdy. But after seeing the build quality, I won't buy the HTG-branded stuff ever again. I might still shop there but I won't touch their specific line of products ever again.

Thanks for the heads up RTH!! I, having known you for a while know exactly what you are saying. I guess it helps that we are true lovers of the same strain :hump:

Is it possible someone could please help me, ive read the problems with root and nutrient burn from using mg and all the possible cures but theres so many i dont know which one to choose, ive got 4 plants in mg, their about 600mm tall and 1 week away from the 7 weeks to flowering quote. About 2 weeks ago the bottom leafs of each plant started to yellow around the edges, i was told to flush plants through and up the humidity. The bottom leafs have turned yellow now and its starting on the next leafs up the root, ive been flushing each plant with 4 pints of lukewarm water per day for over a week from the tap, no adatives, the waters soft up north. The plants seem to be growing at a rapid rate since giving them 4 pints per day, they are in 7litre 10"pots, got drainage, got fresh air, got the table fan, their under a 600w hid lamp and its 25c. Only got 4 and their feminised, dont want to loose them, please help me if you can. P.S. Dont know what the PH is. Cheers, st200
