Hps vs led??

Uk grow will be in an attic. Not sure of size of attic but I’m guessing decent size it’s in a 3 bed house looking to do 8 plants
LED then because of heat. Realizing, of course, that you get what you pay for. If cost going in is a concern then go HPS. Electricity to run LED? Less? Heat? Less. Weed? Less - if you go Amazon blurple. Go COB or QB and get weed.

So hps gives you higher yield??

Actual wattage gives a better yield...cutting corners does not
What he ^^ said. HPS gives the most bang for your buck. At the cost of more heat and more electricity. Good LED is not cheap but should more than justify the costs going in. Plants like a warmer temperature under LED so that’s a bonus too. I would expect to spend about $500 USD on a REAL led grow light. If you are the handy sort you can build one.

Okay so basically hps is the way. Can u screw a metal halide bulb in a hps ballast??

the problem with leds is,the good ones are very expensive compared to hps lights
and in the winter they don't provide enough heat, unless you have lots of them in your grow space.
so some people will use hps instead of leds in the winter.
but the good led lights, when it comes to grams per watt can perform better than hps.
but hps lights should consistently give you good results all year round if you can keep the heat under control in the summer.
using aircooled reflectors should help with that.
