HPS to MH

Well i bought one of the 119$ 400watt HPS systems from HTGSupply.com and i had one question about it. I have a 175watt Metal Halide bulb and i was wondering if the 400watt system would run the bulb without incident.
I ran a 400w bulb on a 600w ballast and this worked out fine for about 2 months, but the biggest problem is because you are making the bulb burn much hotter than it should do, your going to end up with a very high colour temp, your bulb is going to come to the end of its life much quicker, it may well explode, if your face was anywhere near it at the time you would probably end up blind.

Them metal halides are more deadly ain't they. All the ones that I've seen look like a blown up balloon vs. just a tube looking light.

You've got to remember that there is a gas inside that light, it works by igniting it with electric current, put too much in and you get an explosion it can only be bad. A hps wouldnt be too different either

I'm in a mood today. Don't mean to step on any toes if I am. I just love learning and having fun at the same time.

Wow anyone who would say it is safe to use mh in an hps ballast or vice versa or a different watt bulb must be retarded this question shouldnt even need to be asked.Bulbs ballasts and watts are not interchangaable. You have to have switchable ballast or special made conversion bulbs with matched wattage. They will blow up catch fire and fry the ballast

i say only high presure sodium, sodium explodes if it is a stable metall if it gets into contact with water, the gas of it will do the same just that it will only need the moister in the air.
an MH is not that explosive but still dangerous, and if it is just to the fact that Hg (g)which involved in this type is highly toxic;)
