HPS to MH

Well i bought one of the 119$ 400watt HPS systems from HTGSupply.com and i had one question about it. I have a 175watt Metal Halide bulb and i was wondering if the 400watt system would run the bulb without incident.
 
i doubt it ballast is bigger then the bulb my guess is its not worth being speard by 1500 degree glass or something like that
 
the thing will blow, don't even try this EVER! if you not happen to have a special blast that can be switched to MH fro HPS you shouldn't try it and even then the difference in wattage can cause a major disaster!
 
Are you absolutely sure that it will blow or is this just what you think? The reason i ask i am getting varied responses from a few other people.
 
Yeah, Ive had it running for two days now without incident so thats why im not so sure it will cause a 'major disaster'. I mean, its a 400watt ballast running a 175watt bulb. I hope it works XD

all you got is the same from 420101 and the less usefull one from bigbud, the on blast isn't designed to handle a MH, so either the blub will blow or the blast will burn, one of both normally happen if this is tried with a HPS blast feeding a MH bulb or around.:roll:

you are your won boss, do what you want, but don't come back crying to anyone for your decision, you gown up enough to grow so you have to carry your responsibility finally always yourself.

i only can advise against it, and that i did sufficient enough i think.

Dude your going to blow your bulb....your ballast is putting out 400 watts and your light won't handle that for long. Same principles in car amps. You can run a 1000 watt sub and a 400 watt amp. After time you will burn the amp because the sub draws too much power. Your on your way to a house fire. I dont' say that to be rude, but you are playing with fire.

absolutely 100% imposible. you will blow your sub from clipping your amp if you listen to it too loud (with a setup like the one described, its questionable if the sub would even blow from that), but power handling of a sub and amp wear and tear are completely unrelated. its like apples and oranges.

True Dat! You are playin' with fire (literally).

Let's say that you are drinking a 12 ounce can of soda. I'm sure that you could finish it with no problem. Heck, if you're me you could probably down another can without even burping.

Now let's say that same can of soda that you were able to down with no problem before is now bottomless. The truth is, you can drink from this can of soda but because there will eventually be too much to drink because it is bottomless you are going to get full. As a matter of fact if you try to drink the bottomless can of soda to the bottom you will probably explode and catch on FIRE!

Just like you drinking too much soda, your light will eventually explode and catch on fire.
 
Wow, after reading my last post I was sure someone was going to comment on how I was able to relate drinking soda and light bulbs. I must have been in a state of lucidity when I was sharing my thoughts.

ximor, I am interested to hear what you plan on doing with your situation. Keep us posted.

I never said the sub would blow. After posting it I thought the reverse would be even more applicable. The light is a stationary electrical device. The amp is the power management. Use a 1k amp on a 400 watt sub and turn it up and see what happens. Doesn't burn up right away, starts to smoke, smell a little funky, them boom nothing. Back to the speaker shop to get another sub and try to get it for free. Then the person behind the counter says it smells like burned rubber, did you fry it? No No! you reply, I just followed the instructions you gave me junk.
