HPS to CFL after a couple problems.

Hello all, new to this section of the forums, I recently had a few problems with my little girls. So I have now taken out my 400w HPS and put in a 68w CFL.

3 Gal Pot
30x20x72 Plywood Cabinet
BioBiz AllMix Soil
Peters 20-20-20
PH'd water 6.5
With the HPS, Temps were 65 night 80+ during the day.

About a week, ago My girls stretched during there sleep, and got burnt when they woke up.

So I topped her to get rid of all the deadness. I guess in her tender state the 400w HPS was too much for her, Half of her fan leafs turned yellow, and started to die.

Is it normal when you top your plant, that you can see straight down the stem? I mean I can almost see all the way to the bottom. Scared thinking that having it open I might kill her, I stuck a peice of plastic in the hole to plug it up.

Any advice?

Will going from the HPS to CFL be a big problem?
I'm 20 days in 12/12
The lower new growth sites are just starting to pop out with all the white hairs.

I'm like bugging out, but trying not to get too impatient, or do anything too dramatic to her.

Will get pics up in 3 hours when lights come on.

Please if anybody has any thoughts that might help I would love to hear it.

P.S. I know this should be in the plant problem section, But since I just converted to CFL I figured I'd post here.

wow.....um.....you could have ventillated the closet to start with, and kept your HPSlights for flowering, which is what you need.... just cuz the top burned you could have done a FIM and grown a huge cola.....but now....you dont say how many or what watts of CFL's youu plan to use...you'll need just as many, if not more lumen output with CFL's than your HPS. And yes, Mj has a hollow core down the main stem. Expect a two week recovery from stress at least....
If I were you, I'd find another place to put that 400 watter!. 400 watts is enough light for a 4x6x8 room!

You could raise it up more, just a bit, so she won't stretch into it, or...stich with CFL's ..way to go, but I'm biased*lol* That's all I use. With cfl though you'll need at least 3 more of those puppies. he advantage is that with cfl's you can range them around the girl giving light to all side evenly which will dramatically increase yield.

I have 72" hight. My girl was stretched up to 50 " Reflector is about 10" in hight, so I only have 10" more to go up.

I do have My box ventilated, But its not enough. I would have fimmed it, but the top 4" was all burnt, dried, and hanging over. All the new growth that was spurting out, was brown and dried up.

I figured since I was running out of room and since they were already dead to Just cut it all off.

And for the HPS I have it put away for now, I am looking to move as I am in a basement apartment, and I have no room to grow. Once I find the right place, I'll dedicate a whole room for my operations. I have stocked up nearly 300 seeds. Just need to space for them.

So while i'm waiting to move out I am just getting my foot in the door. This is my 2nd attempt at growing, My 1st was with some bagseed, This plant is New York 47, New york Sour Deisel, and AK 47 mixed.

As for the Cfl, I am using a 68w 4200 lumen 2700k and I have 8 23w 2700k CFLs, not in use yet.
