HPS or MH??

would you hurt your plants if you start flowering with a MH then half way thru switched to a HPS?
 
HPS for sure. Not only does it work very well for veg and flowering but it also gives off more lumens per watt i believe it is around 107. MH works very well for veg, but not so great for flowering it produces more fluffy loose bud, and has a lower lumen to watt ratio, i believe its about 1 watt to 90 lumens or so. so in my opinion HPS all the way. and i like to throw a LED strip in too, cause it gives off no heat and uses almost no energy and they have a great full spectrum.
 
and in reply to your question neef, no you would not. many people prefer to do it that way, but its more costly so thats why some people opt for just the HPS.

To give someone +rep look at the top of their post. There is a bar with the date and time of their post. All the way to the right is the post number in the thread. The next symbol over is a scale. That is what you click on to give someone +rep. It took me a few minutes to find this too.
 
I would go with the HPS ballast because you can burn both types of bulbs (MH and HPS). The main difference is the lack of an ignitor in a standard MH ballast. A switchable ballast simply has a switch that turns off the ignitor when burning a MH and then switches it on when burning a HPS. You can even burn a MH without turning off the ignitor but it can lower the life span of the bulb. This info all pertains to bulbs of the same wattage.

H.p.s for both most exsperianced growers will tell you that if you had to choose one light what would it be .all would answer hps all the way for vegging and bloom.

experienced would entail that they have had to have tried both, most are not that experienced, most of the people who would tell you that have never tried both and have a max of 10 grows under their belt

well i want to get the best quality bud possible,if i invested into a mh as well and used both to veg would that improve bud quality or not?
