OK, so i have 6 plants in flower mode all with different harvest dates, soil small pots 6 weeks to 7 in flower stage with 3 of the six, and i had hps, but the tricks on my choc. chunk are lacking, my 2 bubbas are sweet, so today i switched to my mh and it is 400 watt, will this increase the trichs or add weight to buds? please respond, i can always switch back to hps. what do you think?

HPS - flowering needs red spectrum light. But - the more light the better as well -

so if you have 2 complete setups / ballasts - use BOTH !

i dont, just one set up, but when i bought the mh, i thought the saleperson said i could use mh all through the grow, so i just wanted to try to do something because the chunk is not trich at all, or not that much?

They say MH is better for veg, HPS for flower.
I read MH is better for trichs, same as you.

I my experience, HPS kicks the crap out of MH for flower.
But nothing better than a hps/mh combo as mentioned before.

i know, but i want to know if anyone used mh all thru grow, and mine are at 6 to 7 weeks flower, and it is still 12/12

I have used, and am using MH through the whole grow....I use sunmaster warm bulb, which emits more red spectrum and i am happy with the results....I am however going to try and flower next grow with conversion bulb and see what happens

Peace

I do not have a switchable ballast...IF i did i would just use an HPS bulb then.....I don't its only halide so i am stuck.....happy its a HID in any case and my yields are more than rewarding and thats what it is all about right?

THC is produced in the trics to help shield the plant from UV b frequency light (270-300 nm) More UV = more THC and trics. With no UV b the maryjane produces very little THC. HPS AND MH DO NOT PRODUCE ANY UVB (they have a little but nothing noticable) Get a UVB bulb or two from a pet store, they are in the reptile isle. Good luck and you should see a change in two to three days!

ok will try that should i stress them at all, shake a bit, and if not loaded with trichs can still be good smoke?

I think that MH does not give the same results as HPS for flowering. Either light will not increase your trich production though.

If growing with HPS and MH produces no UVb and only UVB produces trichomes, then almost 99.99% of all the indoor grown bud ever grown did not get anyone high? You do realize that the THC is contained in the Trichomes right? Show me one shred of evidence that says its true about only UVB causes Triches to grow. My plants grow awesome crystal covered triches with HPS and Nothing but HPS all the way from cradle to grave. You MIGHT get a few more trichs at the most, but you will lose overall weight because the efficiency of MH pales in comparison to HPS.

HPS rules over almost any other light source currently available on the open market.

there's been a good review of the science and related discussion.... might be worth a read. ..... The effect of ultraviolet radiation on the accumulation of medicinal compounds in plants Fitoterapia, Volume 80, Issue 4, June 2009, Pages 207-218 Wen Jing Zhang, Lars Olof Björn
