HPS + MH bulb using same ballast/setup?

i saw the answer to this on a diff forum recently, but now i cant find it, my question is this can i put a MH bulb in this 250w set up http://www.insidesun.com/1f59614e9a5c9ca3451f877b573ad87d.item
for veg and then when i wanna flower take that out and put in my HPS bulb for flower? just curois because i know MH is mostly ideal for veg and hps is best for flower because of the color spectrums a solid answer would be appreciated thanks!!

crap i think i just found it on the link, MH bulb addon? is there an adapter or somethin?

yes u can mh in hps ballast but not a hps in a mh ballast

NO you cannot interchange them that is a magnetic ballast and it only supports HPS. Period.

And the idea that hps can take both but halide can't or whatever is wrong. Only switchable digital ballasts can take both, if they're designed for it.


There are these crazy expensive things called conversion bulbs... They cost as much as just buying a second light fixture and normal bulb. Don't buy them.

dude you r so wrong why would you say somthing if you dont do it. i have been doing this for 2 years now. mh bulb in my hps ballast

well to be quite honest, you can put any bulb in any ballast and chances are if it turns on then it works. Now, to put up my disclaimer, that DOES NOT mean what you're doing is safe. Just because something doesn't immediately explode doesn't exactly mean it works. Furthermore, just because your friend's works doesn't mean yours will too.

In conclusion, if you follow what the ballast says then you will always be safe, if you try something else you're putting yourself at risk. You will either have saved money or blown off your hand.

i have a friend who is a certif. elect. who told me. if you go to any shop of course their going to tell you dif. so they can sell you somthing you realy dont. money make the world go around. you think their going to say oh you dont need the this will work for both. now that funny shit right their

Who cares about seeing a photo! I just want to know what make and model of ballast you have. This is the most outrageous bull shit I have ever heard! Even if it would work - having an electrician say it is perfectely ok, that's rediculous! I call BULL SHIT!

you my friend is not very smart. why would u want to argue with someone that has been doing this for 2 years w/ the same bulb, and w/ no problems. and your saying bull shit. i have prof that backs it.

Smart enough to know bull shit when I hear it! I'm not arguing with you - I said you don't know what you're talking about, there is a difference you know!

Unless you have a "Dual Ballast" (one that was designed to run both HPS and MH bulbs) or one that has been modified by someone, I doubt very seriousely that you can do what you say you can! I even have stronger doubts that a legitimate electrician would say its a good idea to do so.

You seem to be the only one that promotes this idea - so go ahead and enlighten us! Give us a link! Show us your proof! Explain why everybody else knows it doesn't work this way - but you know better - go ahead, explain it!

Ummmmmm wow... just got off work...no need for hating =( As far as I know thougn, Oregon meds IS an electrician/handyman...... from what ive seen him post on these boards so far, I havent seen him with such a bold statement that is innaccurate.. so im gonna stick with his take and not do it.. oh btw your pic of your bulb doesnt have the "switchable" check box checked... it actually looks like the one that says "HPS" is checked =/ just telling you so you dont get hurt man, not to cause any arguments... anyway thanks for the help all
