hps lighting?

i bought an hps sert up today off craigslist but it doesn't have an inline fan or a carbon filter! i was wondering if i had it in an open room with regular fans blowing if this would be ok for plants? or is it necessary to keep the bulb cool?

Depends on the size of the light and the size of the area you're putting it in.

HPS do not need to be air cooled but it helps a lot.

18 x 18 ft? That would be fine with a fan blowing on it then.

Any smaller than 6x6' then you would probably need to air cool it.

You'll be fine. Just keep the room under 80 degrees. I ran 4 - 1000watt HPS's in a 10x10 room once using Hydrofarm non air cooled reflectors. All I used was a 12" axial exhaust fan and oscillators. This was 1994...before the days of air cooled reflectors.

I'm guessing since he said small room, that he means 18" x 18". If that's the case, that light is way too big and to hot, and wasting power. If it's 18' x 18', it's not a small room

I assumed he meant 18'x18', and was not planning on using the whole thing...just around 4x4. That's what I get for assuming, again...too much of my wife's Kush Toffee, today.
