Hps light wattage

I have a grow tent that is 20 in by 36 in or about 4.5 square feet. Iam using a 400W HPS light. I do have some issues with heat. Am I putting too much light onto my plants? I do have option to change to 250W.

Cool, I am looking to replace with air cooled deflector.

I did run into issue with current plant getting too tall and getting too close to lights.

With HPS lights in tents you need air cooled hood otherwise will run into temp issues. What is the cfm of your fan(s)?

If running into height issues I would be looking to train the plants somehow. Usually topping early on is ideal for me but there are other means to get good results.

At the moment I have one exhaust 400cfm with carbon filter and two 200cfm intake fans.

I was thinking of changing to a ducted light with one 200 cfm fan. For 400W I think it should be sufficient.

I would then have one 400cfm exhaust and one 200cfm intake.

Thoughts?

Yeah that should be good man. Having a couple fans inside always helps with healthy stem growth too.

Well I changed over to the ducted light. Makes a huge difference, even with a small 200cfm fan. My grow tent is now 1.2C above ambient temperature.
