HPS light systems are too much money for me. are there any good alternatives that are cheaper. i'm just starting out so I'm not striving for perfect bud just decent

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ No shit, joekikass! I try to tell 'em..but they don't listen and think they can sustain their smoking habit on a *toy* light set up. Kids...you can read yer Harry Potter books by those CFL's but to grow ANY QUANTITY of WEED they suck ass...plain and simple.
Consider the cost of what you're going to grow and the legality of growing it...and then think how much you spend on street weed. For the price of 1/2 z you can buy a 400/1000 watt light and be SET for a long time.
Balk and waste time /$$$ on CFL and you'll be joining in with the rest of the crowd here who grow ONE measely plant that will last them about as long as it takes to GERM the next crop's seed.
Then they're out of weed...back out on the street (and typing on the Net about how they can "speed this process up")...STILL whining that they don't have the cash OR THE BUD in hand to buy the proper kind of light they need to stay high.
In the end, you may have to SACRIFICE for awhile to get going, ya know?
Kids, this isn't a new hobby and the path has been blazed (literally) for you to follow. All you have to do is listen, buy the right shit and LOOK AHEAD and you will be successful in this endeavor.
If you don't have the room. (read, somewhere besides mommies house)..the cash..or the time to invest you should take up knitting wool hats instead of growing.

Dude , check out this 400 Watt HPS, it's such a good deal,I have 2 more I just ordered coming in the mail right now.....HPS will save you so much money in the long run, and this one is so inexpensive it's crazy, you will make your money back and alot more your first harvest......

While what "beenthere donethat" says has alot of truth in his words, although he can be a bit harsh at times 
you can grow with cfl's, it will take longer, and you will yeild less.
One fine point of going with the hps is that after your 1st harvest, you can sell an oz to recover your cost in growing, and keep the rest.
I have 4 of those large freezer ziplock bags packed with weed, each one has a marking on it as to which plant it came from.....my wife and I absolutely love going into the drawer, looking at each other, and asking.....honey which one do you want to smoke tonight? We grab a bag, pick out a bud, stick it in the grinder.....and at this point, we pass it to each other to enjoy the arome of the freshly grinded herb. Of course than we....rollitup!
Whatever you decide to use, we will all be here to help you along the way.

VM, I envy you, dude! That's EXACTLY where the Mrs and I want to be! Damn, I am getting an HPS. There's no 2 ways about that. CFLs were fine for me to cut my teeth on but now I think I have a good handle on how to grow and I am ready for some prime bud. My target for my next smoke, seed to smokable bud, is September. I need to start here in the next week or 2.

Sorry vidman....I'm old and tired and I've been at this for longer than most of these kids have been alive. I'm a medical marijuana patient. I know good bud and I know how to grow it. No brag, just fact. (now THAT dates me!)
Seeing crap info and folks being steered into wasting cash on toy lights just pisses me off. they're all reading HIGH TIMES and looking at the pics of the stiiicky iccky/dank/HUGE buds and THINKING they can do the same with DIFFERENT EQUIPMENT!

Wow for so many post you dont know much about growing do you? HID are superior to CFL, yes, and they can be cheaper($20 150w hps). But to say you cant grow quality weed and get a good yield is ignorant. There are planety of examples of this sight and many other of great weed grown woth cfls. If you think there is a difference in quality then you are stupid. People get onces with a few CFLs all day. And the buds are nice and tight. But by reading your post its obvious that you just listen to what other peole tell you to do and dont really try to grown on your own. I bet you buy the most expensive nutes to because thats what you need to grow right? LOL
