How to use Ph up w/ soil already potted?

Hey all,
If I test my runoff water my Ph is almost off the chart low. Considering re-potting is not an option, can I add ph up to my water to bring the soil ph up to a reasonable level?

If so, how do I determine how much per gallon is safe? Does it depend on what the current soil Ph is, or do I attempt to just bring it up to some even level with so much ph up per gallon of water? I don't exactly want to overdo it.

My leaves are curling and I am getting areas that look burned but yellow (so far only on one or two leaves at the bottom of the plant.). Considering the low PH in the soil I assume this is the cause.

I haven't had a chance to get to lowes today, but I assume I can get PH Up of some sort in the garden area.

Thanks for ANY input.

well... first without pics its hard to really help you out with a diagnosis... it could be nute burn.. or it could a deficiency...

but to get to the soil question.. you cant use PH up or down to raise/lower the soils ph...

nute solution ph, actual soil ph, and run off ph have little to do with one another.. the soils ph having the least to do with either... testing run off ph is pretty much a waste of time since it really tells nothing about anything...

to test your soils ph you must get a soil ph test kit.. such as this http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=CWS510&AC=1 they make more expensive and less expensive ones.. so there should be something for every price range...

in order to adjust the actual soil ph you must use amendments or additives that are specifically made to affect the soils ph...

amendments: to raise the ph use dolomite lime... lime has a ph of 7.0.. so over time your soil will stabilize at or around 7.0.. since you add nutes, which leave salts behind that lower ph, its typically a little lower...

if you need to lower your soils ph you can use sulphur...

both take time to work.. they arent instant... read the recommended amounts for the amount of soil you have

http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=EJNU502&AC=1 and http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=EJND502&AC=1 can be mixed in the soil to raise or lower the ph as needed.. again, read the instructions for usage...

also, its better to under adjust than to over do it... adjust slowly... if you need to adjust a point (1.0) or more in either direction, adjust half way, allow the plant to adjust, then adjust the rest of the way.. over adjusting may cause osmotic shock to the roots and stunt growth...

the reason i say that is this...

run off is a mix of what you just fed, what was trapped in the soil, and other shit that has came out of the soil... so its a contaminated sample... and it doesnt tell you anything about whats actually going on in the soil...

you could have a soil run off of 5.0, water with ph 7.0, and have a soil ph of 6.5...

if you want to know your soils ph you must get an actual soil ph test kit or some sort.. and if you want to know your solution ph get a normal ph test kit... but trying to use the run off as any sort of real guide line as to what the soils ph is will do nothing but give you false readings...

I apprectiate all the detailed info and the respond. I actually have used a soil test kit and it shows a ph lower than I would like.

As I said I don't have the option of re-potting so I can't mix anything into the soil itself. My question was really how much ph up and what type I can add to my water. E.g. So many teaspoons per gallon. Perhaps the bottle explains that?

hey im kinda in the same situation as you

my plant was getting yellow/brown spots so i flushed and tested the run off which was waayyy below 5 but my pH test probe keeps telling me its around 6.8.
should i trust my tester or the run off? my plant is growing fine again.

if you wanna add lime to raise it you dont have to get new soil...go to the FAQs at the top then click "grow methods and mediums" then "Soils" then "how can i measure the pH of soil runoff?" it will tell you how to do it. i dont think pH up for water will do anything to your soil.

Thanks so much all!...

I feel silly I didn't find this on my own, so I apologize for being the classic newbie.

RockstarEnergy per your instructions I found this section: https://www.rollitup.org/view.php?pg=faq&cmd=article&id=132

thanks again. :)

One last thing. Does this lime look ok? Does brand or type make a difference? http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=251656-1321-451392&lpage=none

no problem man, im a noob too and kinda stumbled apon that in my search for a remedy. the grow FAQs are a bit hidden haha.

that was the same lime i was going to get if my plant got worse. im pretty sure its the right stuff...its fast acting so i might add i bit less than it says to?? but you should def get a second opinion on that seeing as i have no experience with it! getting advice from people with experience is pretty hard around here tho! other assholes with way less specific posts w/ less info get hundreds of replies but we get ignored. quite frustrating!:cuss:

anyway, hope it works out!
