how to top? and do i have to?

Ive been hearing that I should top my plants. They are 1 month old in veg. stage about 7 inches tall. Should i top them and how would i do that, does anyone have a link or pictures of doing this?

here is a link. the bottom 2 pics is a plant that was topped then about 1 to 2 weeks later. you just pick or cut the very top growing shoot and then it will grow 2 tops.
