I only use Rockwool. You can prevent algea from growing by covering them with a white block cover. sold at hydro shops.

^ get the covers for sure 10$ for 40 of them and they are re-usable. I only use rockwool even make my own seed pods and I almost never have any issues . And if your watering them to the point its building algae your probally watering to often

I have some 99% iso alchohol; will that destroy top surface algae on rockwool? I have two closet grows running and the algae is only affecting one of them consistently.

You can use hydrogen peroxide. Like everyone else said, just cover them and all will be okay.

Flick the rockwool downward a little after you water when they're small. Or sit the rockwool on another cube because it will wick out the excess water.

you seriously dont know what algae is?
Hey Jjgrow, Sorry that I am having a rockwool issue I am unfamiliar with and if you are disturbed by my questions, THAN DON'TANSWER MY FUCKING QUESTIONS!!!. I'm 66 and deserve RESPECTFUL CONSIDERATION!

I studied oceanography in 1983, so YES, I Do fucking know what algae is, (a plant that uses photosynthesis like any other and produces most of the worlds oxygen).

And Thank you to those who DID answer me with respect!!!

I would think that would kill your plants but not a hydro guy myself

what didn't you like about it?
I don't know. It just didn't work out for me. I know others use it and it's proven. But when I did flood and drain I used hydroton which has it's own issues. One of the reasons I switched to coco.

Rockwool just seems to stay too wet. I probably should have worked with it longer.

yes, hold a very large amount of water, I air prune them on a wire mesh for 2-3 weeks and for the first 3-4 days the dont need water once full and after that its a case of dipping them in water every day for 3-4 seconds only but this is a great technique to learn for a massive airpruned rootball to be put in your sub as choice
