I didn't want to deal with the pain of finding the appropriate charger(s) to strip, so I tried looking for a different solution and it led me to this:

Fan speed controller that can run two fans plus a molex power adapter. You could also add in a fan extension cable if you want to have one fan lower than the other (than what the sables allow). As cheap as $16.46 for both.

There's also this Silenx 4 fan controller for $29 that comes with a DC adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999167

It was a real pain figuring out what to use and finding the lowest prices.

Can anyone recommend some cost-effective computer fans? Best bang for the buck. My grow box will only be 9 cubic feet (1.5x2x3) an will use three 42-watt daylight CFLs. I've read that 120mm fans run quieter at the same CFMs a smaller fan runs at.

well, i think it would be a great setup for something such as a PC case grow or similarly sized.

Late note to above: enter Antec 3 speed fan in ebay, choose 120 mm. Allows for 3 diff speeds and unlike a regular case fan it is not controlled by a mother board. Great for just enough circulation for seedlings and clones.
