Hey guys,
I found this article while searching for a spider mite fix, at :

http://www.getridofthings.com/get-rid-of-spider-mites.htm

The part of the article im concerned with is the suggestion of using rubbing alcohol mixed with water to foilar spray infected plants. HEre is the quote....

"It has been suggested that spraying plants with a 1:1 mixture of alcohol and water will kill spider mites on contact. Rubbing alcohol, like any alcohol for any creature, is poisonous in high dosages, and it evaporates quickly doing little damage to the plant it’s been sprayed on. Some people suggest a 1:3 mixture of rubbing alcohol to water, but the strong the mixture, the more certain you are to get as many mites as possible. Make sure to cover the entire plant, focusing on the bottoms of the leaves where spider mites tend to hang out."

Anybody ever hear of this or try it? Im about to give it a go if no one responds soon, ill try it on one and see what happens.....dont wanna guinea pig the whole crop..:bigjoint:

Long time no see man! I've read the same thing about the rubbing alcohol. In addition I've read you want to use really cold water and a few drops of soap for a surficant. I've started to use a product called SM-90 to control gnats, but the bottle says it works as a foliar spray to control spider mites. I've used it as a spray with no ill effect...

Good luck man.

i use neem oil i wouldnt use alcohol idk just seem to chemical.. neem oil is 100% natural and organic . works for most pest on the plant and u can water it in ya soil

Neem oil or Einstein oil (which contains Neem).
But I have heard of people having problems getting rid of pest infestations using just Neem oil. It kills them, but not necessarily all of the eggs. Few days later problem comes back.

I tried mild dish soap when I got my first infestation. It burned the shit out of the plant, and damn near killed it. But it sure killed them spider mites good.
Plant survived, they didn't.

Later I found out that mild dish soap means, green dish soap...which is much safer as far as the chemicals in it. And I also used way too much.

I sprayed my plants with 1:1 alcohol-water. No damage. But it didn't kill the spider mites....if in fact that is what I have (MAJOR white speckling of the leaves). I bought something else at Home Depot yesterday that had canola oil and pyrethrum, among other things. I drenched the plants with the spray.

This morning I checked to see that I didn't burn them; they look ok, other than the massive amounts of white speckling.
