How to germinate seeds without a heat mat ?

Day 2 of germination and my damn heat Mat packs up.

It's about 18°c room temp .
No heating .

How can I germinate ?

Soaking in a glass of water ?

What about water temperature?

All I can think of is putting the cardboard box there in into my grow room

I put mine on top of the cable box... Works perfect

This works well or the modem. Especially because most people don't own the cable box. I learned the hard way you don't want to cover the vents on your own expensive electronics. I really miss that home theater receiver.

Never use it . Cheap convector heaters expensive to run. Ripped them all out to make space . I don't feel the cold and it doesn't get that cold in winter . 10°c tops

Have an old laptop lying around spilt water on the keyboard black screen of death..still operates perfectly just fried the connection to the display .hopefully ,in time it will throw out enough heat and find some use for it's uselessness , save on my electronics lol

Heat mats suck they dry out your soil and cook your seeds unless you have a temp regulator.

Wet paper towel in plastic baggy in a dark drawer for a few days

Wet my medium, plant my seeds and light them up under something small or low power on 18/6.

not rocket science really. That’s how people have been sowing seeds since forever!

I soak mine in a h202 and water solution for 12ish hours first but other then that same.

True, but I hate wasting potting soil and time if they dont pop tails. I start off in solos after the paper towel/ baggie trick.

Imo, even just a 30 second bath in peroxide is a great preventative for anything nasty that may be on the outside of the shell. Standard procedure in my house.

if you let them soak for about 12 hours, they also all have a teeny little "tail" poking out that is the start of a tap root so you know exactly which way to put them. I have a nearly 100% germ rate for anything that has a tail coming out of the soak.

Not really. About the same as pissing about with wet paper towels and then planting them.

Pretty sure they know which way to grow.

I just put them in small nursery pots of soil, water them in and put them somewhere warm. I use the top of my T5 fixture often.

No soaking, paper towel, domes, voodoo, magic potions, chants, etc... Just screened potting mix and tap water straight from the tap. I don't pH or anything. Seeds always sprout and grow if their viable.

I don't waste time with unnecessary nonsense. It's a really simple process that requires next to no effort.

Hell, they sprout just from falling out of the plant.

After a seed run. I guess some seed fell out.

I've used the top of refrigerator, freezer or water heater in a pinch. Each has enough low heat radiating to get it done...
