How to fix undesirable branching before moving outside?

Hello,

What is the best approach to pruning branches in this scenario:
Plants are in Veg and already too big for the raised table in a tent; too close and in some cases touching the LED lights.
The branch pattern at the moment is not wide; just out and straight up due to crowding.

The plan is to move plants outside, mid-May.
I probably need to trim the height by 6-inches.
The tallest plants are 38-39 inch.

In the past I just trimmed ad hoc with no idea if my choices were better or worse.

So, just thought I would ask for guidance in the case there was a recommended method or preference for pruning/thinning a lot of branches in this situation.

Expectation is when outside they will be able to grow wider and more freely.

Thanks!

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I have been topping for a couple of months so I have a lot branches competing to be the one that usually gets named with a hormone label. :-)

Was just thinking about ideal branching strategy from bottom to top.

Maybe as simple as trimming every other branch (node going up) to make more room, as prep for going outside?
