How to deal with the dreaded 'Hay / Fresh Cut Grass' smell. Created for Newbies...

OP, @DrOgkush touched on a point I was gonna make too with the dependency on genetics. Ive found the hay smell also has to do with how much leaf matter there is when drying. The leaf to flower ratio is genetic.

I am in SE Michigan and harvested a branch that broke in a storm on 9/22. It was harvested like a good 3-4 weeks early.

It was a pretty leafy bud meaning a lot of larger leaves sticking out of the cola. It smelled vaguely of grass/hay when drying.

But, after a dry trim to get rid of those leaves and bucking it down to buds and jarring, it smells great now. Hay smell went away once I got the majority of the leaves trimmed out. YMMV.

Trichs are only indicators on the buds not on stems or leaves
My bet you chopped early especially if outdoor in Michigan

EDIT: WELCOME to RIU :weed:
I never look at the stems or leaves for trichs. I look at the calyx and not just the tip of flowers either. I look at the entire length of it. I also live in a dry climate but that is a moot point because my rh is on point and indoors.

Was definitely a dry trim. Took off the large fan leafs and left the smaller leafs and sugar leaf for the hang dry. I hear this is best for a long cure. It was trimmed of its sugar leafs this morning(Day 7) and jarred. RH still sitting at 63%. Smells like gra

Get some proven genetics Grow to mature. Dry slow. Cure slower.

I feel like everyone is on the same page that grass smells are NOT normal and should never be.

I'll keep taking the bro-science and just wait longer. This week is the beginning of week 12 flower. I may wait 2 more weeks or until I see the suggested 30% Amber and go from there. Thank you all for your replies.

NOTE: The test stem was picked 1 week prior to today.

IMO guessing with a friends seeds, it’s going to give you grass not gas. I really recommend buying proven cuts or good seeds online or from your local seed dealer

If you can. Sorry. I know some places still not legal

I get it. It's funny. I tried posting a laugh emoticon but apparently that isn't allowed. Forgive me if I didn't like the posts either as I still do not know where the like button is for comments. I get that me being new and you all having answered questions like this for forever and a day as well it is tedious and annoying but try to remember that we aren't you and don't have your experience yet...But seems to be the only thing it could be is 5% Amber is too early and will smell like grass regardless of what I do and/or I need to get a fan to circulate the air.
