imidacloprid has been banned in the UK.
Is there anything available in the UK that is actually going to work?

Okay to spray soil?
neem oil will kill aphids
NOT ROOT APHIDS! Won't even dent the fuckers!
Look to see if you can get something called BOTANIGUARD 22WP![]()
This is an organic!!
Beauveria bassiana Strain GHA fungus
Use it as a root drench as directed on the label! Use it every 5 days for 3 applications and then another 7 days later.....
Good luck

A recent study found submerging the root ball in insecticidal soap for 30 seconds resulted in less than 30% mortality, submersion for 60 seconds yielded close to 70% mortality and submersion for 90 to 120 seconds yielded 95% mortality.
Escalating the arsenal leads one to neem oil, which uses the active ingredient azadirachtin. Azadirachtin is in the limonoid family and is distilled from the neem plant’s seeds.
Azadirachtin has three unique modes of action as a pesticide. It acts as an anti-feedant, a repellant and an insect growth regulator.
As an added bonus, most neem oil products are organic and OMRI certified. Neem oil has been shown to provide some level of systemic protection and is best applied as a soil drench for control of root aphids. " https://www.maximumyield.com/root-aphids-the-ninjas-of-the-plant-pest-world/2/1266
bacteria seems the best bet for future preventative measures. I see many soil drenches specifically manufactured for root aphids are made with several different botanical oils, like peppermint, neem, etc. The problem seems to be spreading fast to indoor gardens. I hope you get a handle on it soon, good advice to harvest now, discard bucket of dirt, clean room, bleach etc, bacteria, and yellow sticky traps to see when they fly in for some more trou
I battled these fuckers years ago! Tangie is right. I used a 3 step method with all of them being root treatments....All different things.
Neem was tried and it failed miserably! Web sites from those who love Neem - will tell you you can eat the shit! WRONG!
The Botanigaurd is 98% effective.....The thing is. It was then tried alone by a friend - the way I suggested here. It worked and it didn't bother the plant......He sanitized the shit out of the grow!
These damn things are worse then any mite I've ever had! Tough to kill! Strong mix's of Imid, used as a drench - work best....I just can't bring myself to use imid!
The last step was with a chem called Orthene or Acephate 97UP It works as a drench again.....I tend to doubt that's in the UK but, if it is? Use this!
It's used to kill fire ants as a drench. Follow those instructions..It has a half life of 3-6 days and is considered "gone" in 15-16...

no doubt that will work, no doubt at all.
I get these bastards once yearly, in spring. Ant come in my room like an army, I watch them because....
so far they've always gone for one plant in the room. The ants colonize a plant, farm aphids, and eat their poop I'm guessing.
I watch them do it. some are kept in the dirt and some on leaves and stalks. only one plant mind you.
I pour neem/soap in the one plant surface dirt and foliar, and the ants bum out, some die, and the foliar kills the aphids it covers. I rake up till I see the ant farm inside, do the same again.
I do this for a few days in a row, then again if I see ants around even. always has killed them right in front of my eyes. only time I ever see these too, in the spring, once.
I promise you an aphid cannot survive if covered in oil,. peppermint, dlimonene, thyme and rosemary oil has worked so far the same way. go outside, catch on and cover it with canola oil ,it dies. I watch them wiggle in the oil, then stop moving.
I wouldnt fuss this way for an outbreak, but I dont get outbreaks with multiple plants. I know many things will kill these bugs and others, while I'm no fan of neem oil I do see it as safer than a chem as a first defense. theres vids of greenhouses destroying the
bugs with neem/soap alone, they do die, check it out. neem kills aphids, wont control a room infestation.

if wants to get rid of these aphids in one plant...oil works for me year after year. when its time to rid the rooms...I'd do what your suggesting without question.
Green aphids and "root" aphids are not the same thing. The OP needs a multiple approach to fully eradicate them. Root aphids are right up there with broad mites in terms of hardiness and difficulty treating. They're resistant and they spread rapidly.
OP, before you do anything be sure you've positively identified the pests. The lit provided will help a great deal with this.
If its RAs, follow the advice Dr Who and Rog offered. These guys are seasoned growers. Don't risk an infestation. Its not worth it.
Dr Who, do they still use the BioWar packs for this? It seems the "buzz" about that product has fallen by the wayside. Havent heard much about it lately.
That may work fine for surface aphids Chemmy..

yup, after reading @Tangerine post I considered the thought that they may not even have been aphids ! lol, was gonna post that when I got back, but I see thats actually the case now.

I nearly bought the Biowar when it first came around. The reviews were stellar. Glad I waited it out. That may work fine for surface aphids Chemmy..
These are underground aphids. as they mature - You see little fliers that look very much like fungus gnats but, smaller....They spread like wild fire and are persistent as hell!!! Silica and even DE has little to no effect on them - Tried that too!
People call mites the "BORG"....I call root aphids the BORG! I'd rather deal with mites any day! I can kill and contain them easy....
Root aphids have differing types, just like mites. The worst are the ones that infest grapes of all kinds....They can destroy a wine vineyard in a season! I live very, very rural......I have for years been killing off the fucking wild useless grapes around my farm and property I have buildings on. Guess what root aphids infest those? Neem has very little effect on them as a root drench......I've tried!

Anyway, I have been mite and root aphid free for 5 years or close anyway....PM was an issue after building the new grow.....I forgot to sanitize before starting it up!Gone now, and hope to keep the no PM record of another place....
It's one of those over priced myco source supplements......It's been found that they over claimed it's results (sound at all familiar for a growing product?).....It was never intended to help with Root aphid problems - basically increased root growth. I can do better for less.
Your so right about the root aphid issue!
If the OP can get ORTHENE in the 97% form.....I would use the Botaniguard first - just like I said, and follow it up with a 2 treatment sch. of the Orthene. The second one 6 days after the first.....Nasty fucking things root aphids!
Flat out bitch to get rid of (outside of Imid use)....

Its always good to hear from those that have "won the war". I pray I never have to battle these or Borg/Broads. I run perpetual and it would be an absolute nightmare.
