How to clone successfully if you have a hard time cloning!

At first I had a hard time cloning, I did everything everyone said to a tee and my clones still died! Here are some great tips I have learned on how to improve your odds successfully! There are other ways to clone, I just find this way works the best for me! A tale-tale sign your clones are going to root, is that the stems will become deformed and have bumps growing on them.

1# Get an Aero Cloner or build a cheap bucket cloner! WHY? Aero Cloners seem to root the fastest. The faster you can grow roots, the more likely you will succeed.

2# Try and use the highest output air pump you can find. WHY? This will keep out mold. Mold can't live or grow in high oxygen enviroments. Small aquarium pumps suck, get a high output pump.

3# Use Tap Water only! WHY? I have RO water but I wont use it for cloning. Tap water has chlorine in it, it's a small enough amount that it wont hurt the clones and it will help keep mold and bacteria out.

4# Don't use any nutrients! WHY? Superthrive and Silica are the only thing that's ok. Make sure your bottles are not contaminated or you will have problems. Don't use beneficial bacteria. Beneficial bacteria in aero cloners will still get root slim. I have ran with it and without it. It's better to just be sterile in an aero cloner. No nutrients! You want your roots to search for nutrients. If you feed them, the roots will grow so much slower!

5# PH 5.8-6.2 WHY? I have read clones root best at a PH of 6.2

6# Use low light! Low light for 18-24 hours a day. A sign that you're using too much light, is that your clones will start turning yellow. I just use ambient light from my mother plants.

7# When taking cuts use 70% Iso Alcohol on the razor blade and wipe down the stem of the plant with alcohol before taking the cut. WHY? Being sterile increases success!

8# Use Rootech cloning gel! Get a shotglass and fill it with distilled or RO water. Then mix in a peasized amount of Rootech in to the shotglass and mix it well and PH to 5.8-6.2. Dip your fresh cut into the shotglass ASAP after the cut. Let the cut sit in the solution for 1 hour before putting it in the aero cloner. WHY? Rootech is water soluble and the stem drinks up the hormone easier.

9# Use Clonex solution in your aero cloner. WHY? Hormones allow for faster rooting.

10# The most important! CHANGE YOUR WATER EVERY 3-4 DAYS! WHY? Keeps the baddies out and keeps your stems from rotting!

11# (Optional) ONLY IF THEY WILT! For the first couple of days, use a dome if you can. Don't mist the clones directly. Mist the dome only and then cover your plants. WHY? You want humidity to keep your clones from wilting. Spraying your clones directly can cause fungus or powdery mildew. I have to use a dome because I live in a desert enviroment or my clones will dehydrate. A dome is dependant on where you live, most people wont need it.

12# Inside cloner temperature target should be 75F.

on #11 you can also use no-wilt or dip them in a neem oil/extract(any oil based sray would work) to help block up the stomata, also helping to encourage root growth by blocking the processing of cytokines at the leaves.

another thing i would like to point out asi had exactly the same feelings about tap, its better the use store bought water or some RO because tap can go wild unfortunaltly. i lost a TON of clones because my water suddenly got FUCKED. so know whats in your tap. but i agree good tap is best the chlorine does a great job keeping it sterile and thus making a better environment for roots to grow.

Tap water PH will rise. I PH my water at 5.2 and leave it. It will rise to 5.9 after a couple hours and stay there. RO water will work but Tap water will stay good longer. If your Tap is too hard try mixing 50% RO and 50% tap.

Thank you great tips! Just built some bubble cloners and will specifically try #4 and #9 because I was about to put some nutrients but seems much more logical to put hormones. But I don't trust my tap water much so are there natural ways to purify the water like putting a drop of soap or something?

You can use RO water if you want, add a few drops of bleach per gallon. I have not tried this method yet but I'm going to try it. From what I have read cannabis needs some chlorine. I'm going to start with 4 drops per gallon.

"To meet the desired emergency water purification mixture, based on the condition of the target water. Most emergency experts and health officials suggest a mixture of 8 drops of bleach to a gallon of generally clear water for best results."

I will try bleach too ty...
What do you think of water temperature for those not in a desert? Do they like hot water?

Nightmare...Thank You, I was close to doing things right, your tips have helped, I was wondering if I would do better with a cloner, but if you cant get a cloner, wouldnt it work to add oxygen using a pump and airstone and do I keep water in them all the time? I ph'd the tap water, and the only other thing I do is use a foilage spray...should I add some thrive to their drink? and this is I am using, someone called it a cfl oh and did I say Thank You for posting such clear easy to understsand inf...

In an Aero Cloner the water pump creates heat. If your in a cold enviroment a heat mat under you're cloner will help. You want to be around 75F.

These instructions are for Aero cloners only. But fresh air of any kind keeps out mold. Super Thrive is optional, it works really well for transplant shock and wilted plants. Beyond that Super Thrive is a mystery. The CFL will work perfectly, it stands for Compact fluorescent light bulb.

I tried to rep you but it said I must spread it around. :) This is possibly the best cloning advice I've seen so far. Great contribution!!

Good thread. #10, I'm not sure if this is correct. Where did this info come from?
Changing the water keeps slime and bad bacteria out because when you put fresh water in, the remaining bacteria fungi will be killed. Even if it's not all killed it keeps the bacteria and fungi levels low. The information didn't come from anywhere, it came from experience.

Cloning can be really tough and frustrating, I just wanted to save people from the frustration.
