Anyone give me some advice on how to calibrate this ph tester
1. immerse the electrode in pH 6.86 under the temperature of 25 c standard buffer solution of phosphate, and gently shake electrode
2. regulate the timmer with a screwdriver until the buffer solution value corresponnding to the measurement temperature is obtained
3.immerse the electrode in pH4.01 or pH9.18 the standard buffer solution of borax
4. after about one minute, until the bufer solution value corresponding to the measurement temperature is obtained
Anyone care to simplyfy all that also what can i use as a buffer solution? any help greatly appreciated

Calibrating your meter is a snap!

You should have 2 little holes with screws in them somewhere on the meter. One should be labeled 4 and one should be labeled 7 (or 6.86???). The screwdriver they supplied will fit right into these holes and it is what you use to calibrate the meter.

Meters require "PH Reference Solution", usually they come with a sample packet of 4 & 7. Use the sample packets to calibrate it the first time.... but you will need to purchase some bigger bottles so you can calibrate your meter every few weeks. High Tech Garden Supply

My meter uses 7 & 4 reference solution so I'm not sure about your 6.86... but I'll give you the instructions as I calibrate mine.

1. Get 2 shot glasses

2. Fill one shot glass with 1/2" of 7 solution; fill the other shot glass with 1/2" of 4 solution.

3. Rinse meter tip with tap water

4. Put meter tip in the 7 solution and hold it there for 1 minute. If the meter reads 7 then you don't have to do anything. If it doesn't read 7 then you take the screwdriver and insert it in the 7 hole and SLIGHTLY turn the screw (and I mean slighly.. doesn't take much) keeping the meter in the solution you should see the number on the meter change as you turn the screw. Turn until you get the meter to read a constant 7.

5. Remove meter and give a quick rinse in tap water

6. Put meter tip in 4 solution and wait one minute..... same thing... you are looking for it to stabilize at 4. If it doesn't then use the screwdriver in the 4 hole and turn until it stabilizes at 4.

Once you have done this 2 point calibration your meter is calibrated. Give it a rinse and you are ready to use it. I calibrate my meter about every 3 weeks. Some people do it more frequently... but I find my meter doesn't get out of calibration that quickly and I can go 3 weeks between cleaning & calibrating.

As for the reference solution.... you have to buy it. I don't think there is anything "homemade" you can use. These solutions are set exactly at the right PH for calibrating. The reason I use shot glasses is to provide a deep enough solution for the meter tip to submerge.... but a small enough container that I don't waste solution.

Hope that helps.... Good luck :D

EDIT: P.S. I don't use the meter you have... but shouldn't matter... the method for calibrating is the same.
