I would just like to share on how you can determine the total cost of your electricity bill from your grow room.

First when you get your bill find out how much a Kw per hour you are charged.

Some company"s add charges so you must subtract them if it does not come on the bill you must know how much a Kwh Cost. Usually the company's website has all the cost tax's and monthly fees.

Ex. 786 Kwh used and your bill is about $105.45 .

MY rate is about(0.09920)
Tax(0.0005340)

So say you have 8 23w Cfl on 24 hours a day.
8*23=184w*
24=4416

So you would use 4.416 Kilo watt Hours a day.
Lets say in may with 31 days you would multiply 4.416*31=136.896kwh a month

So then it would be 136.896*0.09920+$13.58 a month

Most company's add the taxes to the Kilo watt not by the price after so you can take 136.896*0.0005340=like 7 cents lol
My bill says they don't charge sales tax to residential community.
so $13.90+$.07=$ 13.97.
This is a good way to figure out if the HiD lights are worth it.
P.S. Try and find all the watts used for the equipment such as fans and water pumps,etc this won't make that much of a difference but the more accurate the better

++++ First Post.

Well it could help some people know if the cost of the Hid light with the electrical charges is worth it or not.
Not everyone can be a Genius like you.
I was just trying to help some people out with there calculations and where you can find the cost for a Kwh cuz maybe it's not on there bill. S.A.
There's no secret too it, just simple multiplication... and how does this allow you to find out if HID lights are worth it? This just shows you how to calculate your electricity usage, which the power company explains to you on your utility bill anyways.

Why not just whip up a quick program in VB that allows you to input your own numbers?

Or, buy a Kill-A-Watt:

I figured this out cause by roommates thought that my little Cfl grow was costing alot.
I told them that every time they leave the a/c on 65 in these hot southern temperatures when no one is home that cost more then my grow in veg. 24/0

Great Idea with that Kill-a-watt item.
Never heard of those. But won't that just give you a more accurate reading on how much wattage your using. Also when Cfl lights loose there intensity do they still use the same wattage?

kill a watt is a great eye opener,my wife and i purchased one a while back...well worth the money,with our ''electrical eyes'' wide open now we were able to unplug certain items while not in use and now our electric bill is actually LOWER now,with our new ''indoor garden(cfl and tube flouros).this item is awesome to say the least... happy gardening

i have 2 x 23w Cfl on 18 hours a day.
I can not figure out what is happening .... EX: 2*23=46w*18=828

So you would use 0.828 Kilo watt Hours a day.
Lets say in april with 30 days you would multiply 0.828*30=24.84 24.84kwh a month

So then it would be 24.84*0.01519= 0.37731960000000003 a month ... cent or what? maybe something is wrong? sure. or maybe is 37 $ ?

I doubt your getting charged 1 cent per kwh

24.84*0.1519=$3.77/month
