hey how do you hook up the fans? also do you have to turn off the lights manually or do you need a timer? manual is fine jw tho

Hi people, good post.

I am looking at getting a server case which is 24" tall and building a pc grow box.
Where can you get the white piece in the pictures for LST and how would that work?
Can anyone add pictures on wiring the fans?
Also I have seen where someone used a DWC system on the Automatic AK-47 and 1 gallon setup and it yielded 33 grams for their plant. 1 in soil which yielded 9g both in a PC case with a 125W Environlite, but I like the regular CFL's. Anyway to build 8 into a box like you see in the video at mrgrowpros site and use a mixed spectrum of 2700K and 6500K CFL's.

I read half the thread 7/14 pages and am too high to read more, but will later when I am hungover in the morning.

u need to make small duck work off the fans in a box shape with the end closed off and cut 2 holes out on each side so the air is being pulled out in 2 places and the same needs to be done the intake fan as well as the exhaust fan
this keeps light out and vents your pc case better get a better yeild..

when I install my fans should I remove all the casing around the blades to make more space? like the plastic and the metal gate.

Some people don't want tons of pot, they just want to get high a few weeks or days.
i do agree..... but that lifestlyes not for me.. first post on this site and i have to say im verry impressed lads.. i origionally started off lookin into a pc grow set-up.. but now im gonna take it a step further and convert a typical 3 drawer cabinet . i have no problems witht the building of it cos theres a 24 part indept video on youtube that was really helpful.. but i need a few tips.. 1st off is how to fit a decent scrubber (carbon filter) . i plan on using 2 standard pc fans (one top and one bottom) in the video he uses 4 cfl's but forgets to mention the wattage.. i will more than likely be growing lowriders first off considering the ease in comparison to others.. so quick tip on how many bulbs and wat wattage for such an eclosed space.. other than that i think im sorted. . . any help is appreciated if anyone has any information on cabinet conversions.. and in return ill keep ya'll updated on my triall and error..

oh rght box size is Size (H)60.5, (W)39, (D)39.6cm.

will get bigger or smaller.. just wanna get all my stuff right beore i go through the effort of building insulationg light blocking and the likes..

This is about the only case where LEDs might actually be worth...

I bet an experienced grower could rock 1~2 zips from a tall tower...

CFLs on top and LED panels on the sides...

I see a zero veg SOG style with lots of tiny clones...

Get about 3 grams per, and try to pack at least 15 of them in there...

I got a 2400w flower room, so I won;t be trying this anytime soon, but... it could be a really cool "occasional user" set up...

If you could somehow have a reservoir under the tower... I would 100% go with a simple drip feed on a tray filled with hydroton...

I see it in my head...:wall::lol:

Now... no one did it and took pics????

Referring to OP pics:

I see you use nexus fans. Nexus fans are good but SilenX fans have an even better CFM to dB ratios across all their products. This is what they advertise and a quick comparison of numbers between the manufacturers confirms this.

I'll definitely be adding more to this thread since I have a really tight 24" PC setup with HPS, CFL, and LED. Link is in my signature with pics. I've made some major changes to my setup since my last pic upload but I can definitely offer some insight into the PC growing world. I'll be happy to offer wiring, temperature, setup, lighting, smell/odor advice, etc.

Tips: build your own carbon filter and get ONA BLOCK
brand odor neutralizer--it really works and for a few bucks you cannot go wrong. There's lots of diagrams and DIYs on rollitup with instructions for carbon filters/scrubbers.

As far as wattage for CFLs. It depends. Go with the maximum watts you can get without letting it get too hot. Due to the inverse-square law, it's better to have a few really big CFLs than a ton of small ones (unless they are all really close and surround the plants). This way you have better light penetration. Go with cool (6500k) CFLs for vegging and warm (2700k) CFLs for flowering--don't buy anything in between these two values because those wavelengths are closer to the greener spectrums--which plants cannot use (because they reflect green and hence appear green to the human eye--thus not using the light energy for photosynthesis). You may also want to consider LED panels for side lighting. Don't go with anything under 50 watts. 50w panels with a mixed spectrum can't penetrate the entire canopy but putting it on the side of your box (taking up minimal space) can boost yield somewhat. You may want to consider completely disassembling your LED panel down to just the electrical components and the electronics board--removing excess diode contacts and covering the whole business with high grade duct tape. Just a thought. Another option is to go for a high pressure sodium system and forget the CFLs completely--150w, 70w, 50w, or 35w with maybe only supplementary CFL side lighting. You want the maximum amount of light while keeping temps under control because more light = more bud.

If you are going to buy computer fans--go with SilenX brand. They have the best airflow to noise ratio of any computer fans on the market--by far. I know I shout this a lot and I am not a representative or anything--I just swear by them. They're not too expensive either--definitely a lot cheaper than many "boutique" brands of PC fans like Nexus, Pabst, and Noctura--with better performance to boot.

You say you have ~60cm in height (2ft) which is a squeeze--especially considering the room taken up by wiring, cooling, pots/hydro tubs, timers, lighting, etc.--but it can be done and I'm doing it right now. Put a screen in there for a Scrog grow and you won't be sorry.

Another tip: get mylar. You want the sides of your case to be reflective (makes a big difference). You could paint them white or put aluminum foil but white paint isn't super effective and aluminum foil can cause hot spots. Mylar is ~95% efficient at reflecting photons (if I recall correctly) and will maximize the performance of any light system. It's what the pros use.

I just love stealth grows because it's the only possibility for us weekend stoner/growers who want to keep up the clean-cut illusion and can't/won't manage a big grow.

Good luck to ya man,

That's tight man--lucky that you don't need to have a ton of stealth. +rep for getting 600w HPS effectively into a (still) somewhat small space.
Yeah.. Stealth wasn't really the objective...

Now I have upgraded since...

But my first grow was pretty stealthy... although STINKY!!!:weed:

The whole grow was done inside the nightstand in a hotel room...:hump:

Sorry about the hijack... I know all this is unrelated... but I did subscribe to see the PC grow... so I'll just STFU! and watch...:clap::razz:
