This is my second time growing and i think im running in to the same problem i had years ago.

How big should a plant be before it starts growing new sets of leaves along the stem? (internodes i believe theyre called) I have a plant thats only about 2-3 inches and im scared its not getting enough light. I have 4 2ft 20w flouro tubes. Ill be getting some more bulbs soon.

last time i tried growing i was only using some little incandescent bulb and the plant grew to like almost 8 inches without any new leaves and then died.

i forgot to mention for now the lights are about 3 inches from the plants cuz i cant get them any closer until they grow above the pot

Well its a little far from the light but it should be fine. If it gets too tall you could transplant it deeper in the soil. I have had to do that in the past. Just to make it a little more sturdy.

ok then i wont worry about it as the plants will be able to reach the light soon. also im assuming as nothing was said about the lights, that i have enough?

put the lights as close as you can, put your hand underneath if its to hot for you its to hot for the plant.

thanks but im using flourescents so i dont have to worry about that. my problem was i didnt fill the pot to the top with soil so the plants have to grow about 4 inches to get to the top of the pot. and obviously i cant get the lights any closer than the top of the pot,

i know flouros should be less than an inch

also i just noticed today that the 2 jagged looking leaves are growing on a stem coming from between the other 2 leaves so i think everything is ok

well if the light don't reach the plant...........then raise the plant to the light, put it on top of something, or put something underneth it.
