How Strong can you make a Stick of Butter?

I saw on the "Dead Simple/Blackout" thread that the poster's survey of cannibutter recipes shows that most people believe:
  • 1 pound of butter per 1 ounce of marijuana. 4 sticks of butter = 1 oz. of cannabis

is the way to go.

Is there a limit to butter potency or a point of diminishing returns? Can you put 2 oz of ganja in a pound of butter and create double strength butter? 4 oz ganja in a lb. of butter for quad strength?

I know that there is a downside to trying to create an lb. of butter worth $1000+. I'm just interested in how concentrated can this stuff be. Plus my cholesterol is chronically through the roof!

i would think there would a saturation point... when the fat couldn't "hold" more resin

but if you made hash first and whip the hash into the butter you could do 4x

or do like the club edibles and just add four times the butter the recipe calls for...

this is something subject to a LOT of debate..... I'd love to find out the solid conclusion though.....

I've made budder first 1 oz to 1 stick butter for the ratio, and then returned to the crock pot and added in plenty of hash without straining the 2nd time just mixed in that hash stuck to the bottom of the butter in chocolate on a double broiler. Did not see a saturation point, and some people will never eat cannafood again. =)

Actually I've even been thinking of taking a cup of this budder I'm making right now, tossing it back into the crock pot and adding in 5-10 grams of blondy kief, for my personal medication. =)

this is far from conclusive, but there is a definite difference in potency between using 1, 2 and 3 oz of sugarleaf to 1 lb butter.
i'd be curious to see just how much hash i can dissolve into a pound of coconut oil. think i'll try that next time. :)

the hash not disolving sounds like a saturation point to me.
The hash is a solid sticky substance, most of the 11 grams was pure melt. Same size pieces that went in, same size pieces came out. I definitely made them as small as I could through chopping and tearing though. That's for sure.

Which is why I prefer to mix in Kief, with Kief I've had much better mixing into the butter, same ratios :weed:, soaks into the butter a bit more and far less noticeable than the other hashish. But I can't rule out saturation, a lot of testing I was thinking earlier should definitely be put in order and tried sometime. - Friendly J

I'm thinking about a test. Some kind of test that involves varying cooking times from 4-24 hours. A set amount of herb, hash, or herb/hash, as well as a set amount of a specific butter. Each hour some would be removed, then tested for potency. How long does it actually take to achieve herb or hashish/herb to butter/oil or any other mediums maximum saturation point? Is it only 8 hours? 12 hours? 16 hours? 24 hours? .....What is the maximum saturation point? I would love to see some kind of a test with a few more variables involved performed with a strict standard. - Friendly J

I'd say 12 hours would be the safe point, nothing lost nothing fried...

and also I'd say use kief since you said it disolves much better..

it'd be hard to establish this though... I mean its all subjective... so maybe if you have a high tolerance and you notice after a certain point they don't get any stronger... but to most people edibles this strong it's kinda hard to tell after they reach the point where a half cookie fucks you up...

I am attempting to determine the rating standard set by medical marijuana collectives in California for pot brownies. When asked by pot shop owners what the strength is, I am at a loss, as I cannot find a standardized rating. There are too many different methods of preparing cannabutter / cannaoil for the baking process. For canna-oil, I use 1/4 oz. good buds, finely chopped, to this I add 1 1/8 cup canola oil. place oil mixture in glass jar with lid. Fill crock pot with 3 inches water. place glass jar in crock and set on medium heat for 24 hours. stir mixture after 12 hours. do not strain. prepare per instructions. I get very high eating 1/2 of a 3" square brownie so I have set the strength at 2X. If there is a guide, please forward the link. Otherwise, I have to conclude that one 3" square brownie can have four strengths. 1X = one brownie per dose. 2X = cut brownie in half for two doses, 3X = cut in thirds, and 4X = cut in quarters.

I think you would have to experiment with the following variables in mind:
1) Potency of MJ
2) Heat at which it was cooked into butter
3) Length of cooking time
4) Fat content of butter
5) Cooking time and final temp of the edible itself

legit! sounds good to me.

Last time I cooked with it I got it way off. Have a friend who is a master canna baker...makes me so lazy, I should really try it again.

just made a batch last night... used a pasta sauce jar full of broken up, decarboxylated, medusa trim and shake. I was really excited to try some, so I took 2 small teaspoons, melted it and put it on popcorn. I only ate half or less of the popcorn and was fucking ripped all night (woke up with my feet and legs still buzzing).
This had to be one of my more potent butters, as I used a lb and a third or so of butter and still had to add water to the mix (usually I only use butter and slow cook on min, and stir occaisionally).
fyi: if u like using butter, try to make your own cookies from scratch, as those recipe's usually use more 'butter' than store bought cake, brownie and cookie mix's. (using more butter than called for can make things too moist if you don't counter with more 'dry' ingredient)
enjoy!
