How soon should i start feeding nutes?

Just wondering when/if i should start feeding my clones nutes. They are an outdoor grow in southern california(prop 215). two clones are about 1 1/2 weeks old(cherry ak, and a bubba kush), and the other two clones(og kush) i just planted a few days ago.

the first two clones were planted in FFOF with about 10% added perlite, and the last two clones were planted in FFHF with about 20% perlite added.

anyways, do you guys think i should get a veg fertilizer, or would i be fine with what is already in the FF soil? if you think i should get some fertilizer, what kind would you recomend for vegging? I plan on using AN for flowering(per the advice of some friends who grow locally), or, would i be better off using something else entirely for flowering as well?

anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated. i would post some pics of the plants, but its 2am and dark outside now

thanks in advance

Not sure about out door grows but it is summer so it should be similar to indoor.

I start my seedlings/clones out in soil without nutes (mostly pete, perlite, worm castings, compost) and run them under T5s for about 2 weeks. So, they use what little natural nutes there are in those first 2 weeks. Then, I switch to HID lighting and use a 20-20-20 veg nute every other watering.

My experiences have shown that the intensity of the light and the nute level pre-existing in the soil will determine the timing to start veg nutes. With High light ( for outdoor that means summer) and plain soil without nutes, those babies will start to get a little yellow and stunted after a couple weeks without veg nutes. I start out adding about 20% of the advised dilution strength for the first watering, then 30%, then 50%, then finally the full recommended dilution every other watering. Then I do the full level every other watering from there on.

For an outdoor grow I would assume that the veg nutes are time release granules? So, then you would go out to the plants as Fall approaches (shortening of the daylight) and put down time release bloom granules?

i was thinking of using the AN veg nutrients, but i plan on using liquid nutes though, not time release. any advice with your experiences with different veg nutes?

thanks

OK.....many nutrients you can use from sprout all the way up until flower, its really all about the dilution of the nutes when they are younger. As far as the best time for feeding goes that will vary. Many people think that the "morning" when the lights first come on is the best but I do things a lil differently. I like to give the plants a chance to wake up. I have noticed that about 3 hours after the lights have been on the plants are very perky and reaching for the sky. This I believe is the best time to introduce or even a little before they perk up. Like I said in another post, my plants are very large and bushy for their age. 21 days from germ. They are bushier than most at 7 weeks :) If the plants are outside use the same rule of thumb and try to figure out when it looks like they are eating. I personally use liquid nutes that are organic, they are called Buddha Grow and I have been very happy. You can use them in soil or soil less mediums. Good Luck man keep us posted. I hope I have helped you some how.

thanks bubble.

i will check out the local hydroponics store tomorrow and see what veg nutes they have. just to make sure, it is ok to mix brands right? say, fox farm veg nutes, and AN flowering nutes?

i really appreciate your help

oh yeah, here is a picture i took of them earlier(i topped the cherry ak, bubba, and larger og after the pictures). The largest one(has the other branch coming out of it) is a cherry phenotype ak 47, the other one in a white pot is a OC bubba kush(supposed to be a good phenotype of bubba), and the smaller two both og kush clones. the two white ones were started june 18, and the two og's were started 6/29. i would only plan on using the nutes on the two plants in white pots for now, and then to the og in a week or so.

the white pots are 4-4.5 gallon(Can't remember exact size), and the black pots are 5 gallon. i was planning on keeping them in those pots till finish, but now im thinking i might want to transplant the two white pot ones into say a 7 gallon or something before flowering. what would u advise?

thanks again
