Do you leave hydroponic systems on all the time or do i need to get a timer for my water pump? I have bought/stolen and semi-assembled all the pieces for my DIY setup. Ill post some pics and maybe put up a tutorial in case anyone wants to copy my setup. Thanks.

What is nft? cause I have my system in a gravel like substance for a medium, I have it flooding 3 times a day for an hour, is that good?

QUIT STEALING MY GOD DAMN THREAD!!! Just kidding I dont give a shit. NFT is the Nutrient Film Technique. The basic idea is the plants grow through a layer of light proof plastic over top placed over shallow, gently sloping channels. The roots grow in mats and have a constant film of nutrients passing on top. Hence the name.

Everything past "shit" i stole from this site so you may wanna check it out. www.howtogrowmarijuana.com/How-to-grow-marijuana-indoors.htm

lol sorry dude, but I tried asking in the newbie forum and never got an answer, thanks.

can ya tell me how much I should water? I have a 1/4 strength fertilizer in my reservoir right now since they are seedlings. I currently have it watering 3 times a day for an hour. the medium is a small amount of soil with gravel.

Edit- oh and I use CO2 twice a day for 15 minutes over all the plants.

Thanks Mogie. The site only half way helped me though. I now know to water every 4-6 hours at seedling and in shorter intervals as the plant grows. However i couldnt find anything on how long the pump should run water during each session. All help is greatly appreciated.

That depins on how fast the meduim drys out.about 3 times aday and you might need one dark time watering. Peace

If it is an Ebb & Flow System, I time it on how long it takes to fill the plant tray, and then add one minute. My system comes on every 4 hours, and stays on for 4 minutes, then drains.

Is two dark time waterings ok? And I also supplement CO2 when it's dark.

Don't water during dark hours. When lights are on, the plant is moving water through the media- and really at an astounding rate when they get fairly large. This helps circulate oxygen in the rootzone.

During lights off, the water will just sit there, while the dissolved oxygen in it dissipates. This can cause root diseases.

The plant is not transpiring much CO2 during lights off. Applying CO2 in the dark period isn't going to do much.
