How much does bulb brand matter?

Been using my old bulb for the last two grows. It’s the one that came in the kit with my light fixture. Thinking about getting a new bulb before I need the light for the run I am currently starting. There are large price differences between Eye Hortilux and yield lab and other cheeper bulbs. Is it worth it to buy the top of the line bulbs? Let me know your opinion in the comments.
thanks and happy growing

Thanks for your reply bro. I am normally the type of person to not hold back on spending for the best product. I am not a big fan of vivosun. I got a tent from them when I was starting out it was a pos ha.

Not sure if these brands are relevant to you but gives an idea of difference in output at different costs.
I always advise the Philips and costs only a tad more.

Yeah vivosun are chinese fuckin rubbish!
If you can get the Philips Son T agro or the super HPS from sunmaster, I've found them to be the best bulbs!
$80 for a Phillips bulb.

I can run 4 hoods @ that price with Vivosun bulbs and still pull 1gpw. (Journal link in signature)

I have 2 of their ballast that have run 12/12 for 2+ years with no issues too.
But yes, they're tents do suck.

Been a few for HID. I agree. My cheapos were no less effective than my high end brand names. Oddly just as long lasting. Only a fade before POOF! And a couple ballast of mine are on their 3rd decade in almost constant use for their new owners.

I haven't grown with HPS or MH for years but I remember when I was hortilux was the brand everyone was going crazy for. I actually saw some pretty good side by sides proving they were better than the cheap china's.
Not sure if they are still killing it or if others have caught up.

Eye hortiluxe makes the best HPS bulbs. Hands down. You will not notice that much difference between most other brands but the eye hortiluxe super HPS does help push a few more grams.
Problem is they are only good for a year before they begin to deteriorate. I’ve heard that some vendors online are re-selling them after using them for 6 months; be sure you are getting a brand new one or may as well just buy a cheaper HPS.

Luckily I live in Colorado and have access to reputable grow stores as it’s completely legal for me to grow for my own use.
