How much do you yield under a 400 hps

I've been trying to decide if I want to switch out my two 2-ft. 4 bulb T5's to an older 400 hps or not. Now I get 2 to 3 oz. dry per plant. I only have enough space for two larger plants in my small grow closet - 2ft. x 2 ft and 7 feet high.

Every grow before the T5's failed because I wasn't able to cool my grow closet down enough from the heat the 400 hps puts out.

I am satisfied with the quantity and quality of the grow, but wonder how much more yield could I get if I can get the closet vented and cooled.

Convince me that my yield will increase dramatically and that I'll have minature Xmas trees all over my girls if I ventilate and cool my grow closet enough to try a 400 hps.

Dude (or Dudette), If you're happy with what you're yielding under the T5's then its all good. HIDs are great, but definitely hard to control temps, especially in a small microcosm. I am using 5 400w in my room and have the window wide open and a fan blowing the cold outside air onto them and the temp stays at 70 deg. I couldn't imagine using an HID in a cabinet or small space.
The 3 pound 6 plant grow is bullshit.
I'm hoping for 5 or 6 O's per plant, I have 10 girls under 5 400w HIDs in a 7'x7' space. There is definitely a ceiling on what a 400w light will produce. I think that one could increase it a BIT by using a larger pot, but in my experience (really limited) you're trapped by the 1 gram per watt rule. Next grow, I'm gonna see what a couple of 1000w lights will do (supplemented by the 400w lights of course!!!) I'm wanting to kick it up to about 10 pounds per grow, and will do just about anything to achieve that goal. So any reccomendations will be greatfully accepted!! What ever it takes, as long as it's indoors.

Currently have 3x400watt (2 HPS, 1MH) and 1x600 watt HPS. The 400's get me right around 1-1.5 oz per plant. I usually flower 9 plants per light every 60 days. Harvest is 10-16 oz every 60 days.

The 600 is a diff story, i am hoping to get a pound off 1 plant.

all you guys only get 1.5 to 2 oz a plant under a 400 watter??
My last 2 grow I got that off a 250 watter, I'm currently growing Afghani#1 under 400 and expect a fair bit more than that, Maybe its just luck though. i dunno, fairly new to the game myself.
Again, it all depends on the strain.

I grew some blueberry and had around 5oz per plant. There were vegged under 430w and flowered with 1000w. On that grow I tried the supercropping technique which is why I think I yielded so much. I stopped supercropping though because it takes too much time during veg with that method with all the stressing and bouncing back again and again.

It's totally possible for you to get 1.5-2oz per plant under a 250 given the right conditions and genetics.

Did somebody on RIU say you were lying about your yield or something?

oh not at all, Its just that a lot of people here are saying they only yielded 1.5 - 2 oz a plant under 400, I would expect double that minimum, from my limited experience though. Maybe I just got lucky,

I got 6 O's dry out of 2 girls under 400w HPS....3 O's per plant average aint too bad huh? That would take 5-6 girls to achieve 1lb grow harvest. OBTW, its all documented with pics in my journal. Still linked in my sig

the optimun light for the highest yield is 40watts per square foot
Not true. I have 600w for 9 square feet and that's optimum or slightly less than optimum. However, I have a digital ballast that puts out more lumens than a magnetic ballast so it's a decent amount of light for my space.

You can't talk about optimum watts. It's just not a accurate. Different lights have different lumen to watt ratios, HPS being the most efficient.

You can take 250 watts of incandescents and put it side by side with a 250w HPS and there is no comparison.

Check out this link.

I ran across it after joining RIU and it seems to be pretty spot on.

i got alot more off 1 plant will hps matter of strain and how tall u let them grow and how many bud spots r on the plants i got like almosted 3 pounds off of 6 plants in a 4x4 with a 430 watt hps so think about that....
8 ounces each from 6 plants in a 4x4 with a 430 watt. You need your own book.

Look man I really don't mean to be rude, but 3lb off 6 plants outside would be very impressive. Do you have any pictures or details on this 3 lb harvest?

8 ounces per plant in a 4x4 under a 400w just doesn't seem realistic.
