How much do I water?

I hate how stupid the question sounds..but I really don't know. I mean am I supposed to water my soil before putting the seed in or transplanting?

I just germed my first seed using Hobbes germination method (planting the seed directly into soil). I just poured a little water from a cup to make the soil moist on top, dropped a couple tsp of water on the spot where the seed lies, and misted the top with a spray bottle. Is this all I need? The rest of the soil in my cup is probably dry.

Before transplanting to another pot am I going to need to mix the soil with water or something? I'm using sunshine mix #4 btw.

I'm a complete noob:p help me out.

think you did good, no need for bottom soil to be wet before the seed actually breaks the soil and begin to stretch its root out to the side of the pot and then around and down, what I normally do when I repot, is to use the spray bottle to moist the layers of soil as it go in to the pot.

Thanks man I've got a clear visual now! Misting the soil by layer sounds perfect

You'll be seeing some dank from me when the time comes :leaf:

I do it like that, and if the seed don't pop with in a few days and soil begin to dry out a bit I spray/moist the soil on top/middle then it usually pop with in a few more days, then I keep em in the cups for a few weeks letting them grow a nice big root net to fill the middle of the final pot (I use 5 gallon as final/flowering pot) then I repot em in to there 3 gallon Veg pots where I keep em until a week before 12/12

this is what I use in form of nutrients in veg/flowering:

just to give you a picture of what might be needed, find your own way but weed do like food (NPK) and need other trace elements, specially Ca/Mg (Calcium/Magnesium) and sulfur, Iron, sink, copper, Bor aso.

and it need it less or more in different stages of the grow ..

do some research, this is a great place I usually look up if in doubt, still use it now and then:

This is honestly the most helpful post I've read on RIU to date. You make everything so easy to understand. Thanks for the link definitely gonna be using that.

I'll be using the Sunshine Starter Kit for my nutrients on this first grow. I plan on watering for a couple more weeks then starting at 1/4th the recommended dosage for my nutes. I'll slowly work my way up as I see how the plant reacts to her feeding.

Also I was thinkin' about watchin a few of his longer videos. Do you think it'd be worth my while? I definitely want to make sure before I commit to hours of video lol.

worth it, must be up to you to decide, I find em funny and usefull, so instead of watching Etc. friends on the telli for the million time,
I might watch his videos instead, or some of it, some is more fun and useful then others ..

about nutrients, yes do wait a bit if in good soil, and when you start start slow, small plants in Veg dont use that much, time when they need the most is the fist 2-3 weeks of 12/12, Nitrogen that is, and last 4 weeks they need a lot of P/K

Ok so do you have any of his videos you would recommend? I'm a little bored of the normal shows on TV myself..lol

My soil is Sunshine Mix #4. I'm pretty sure it's beginner friendly, meaning the soil's comprised of anti nute-burn formulas etc. That probably means it's light on nutes, time will tell. I suppose I need to research each bottle specifically to know exactly what I'm feeding my plants. Once I do that I'll be able to adequately judge which and how much of a nutrient solution I need.

I foresee myself mixing my own soil in the future. Also picking and choosing nutrients as opposed to purchasing some fancy nutrient line and following their recommended dosages to the T. Future being my 2nd grow (that's when I'll have almost a permanent setup hopefully, already have that thought out).

You know of any threads that talk about custom soil or nutrients in general? I'd sub to something like that for sure.

Thanks for all your input man! It's greatly appreciated, trust me :leaf::joint:

I actualy mix my own Organic SS soil now (SS = super soil)

I use Plagron All mix as a base (is a good light organic soil made of peetmoss, perlite and worm casting)

I use about 70% and then add 30% coco fibers (optional, but I like it as it make the soil hold water and give a good light airy contend to the soil at the same time)

in that I mix different stuff, I make both one for my Veg pots and flowering pots, slightly different, I mix it 2-3 weeks before I plan to use it and let it sit in a big bowl, I use stuff like blood and bone Meal, Bat Guano, Kelp Meal, Humus, Epsom salt, Mearl/Lime aso.

do some research, google super soil recipe, in a Organic SS, you can get a better product that smell and taste better, can also be more easy to grow in as the soils micro life will help keep a steady PH and the nutrients in the soil will be available for the plant to use as needed so if mixed right you wont need to do much other then water ..
