How many watts per plant should u figure for? (hps)

Im just building my room and am looking into lights. i was wondering how many watts each plant should need from an hps light?
im going to be using some floros and mh lights for vegging and gonna switch to hps for flowering. my space is about 9 ft wide 5 ft deep and 7 ft tall.

aight i heard 30 watts per plant but thought that sounded low. would you need the same amount of wattage from a mh bulb for veg?

and so your saying with 2 600 watt hps lights u should grow like 12 plants?

Wouldn't lumen's per square foot be less confusing than watts? Then it wouldn't matter so much what type of light you're talking bout, just say you need about 5000 lumens per square foot and go from there. A 150 watt hps is around 16000 lumen's but a 150 watt cfl is under 10000 lumen's. Which would you rather use to flower? I know about par and all that, but for new growers lumens is a good standard to measure by. More lumen's more bud generally.

as much as you can handle, really though the stronger the light, the more lumen output, the more lumen output the more buds you grow, and the sun has the biggest lumen output of all the lights in the world, they really grow big outside though
