how many watts do you veg under?

this is a question for comparison to see what different folks are doing

I just got this new LED and got it dialed down to maybe 150watts and the plants are growing faster than those under a 400 watt T5

side by side comparison of same strain/clones

I vary the wattage depending one how quickly I need them vegged. I try to use no more than 80% of flowering wattage, but usually about 50%.

I run 4, 48 volt COBs at 50%. 36 running volts. Estimated wattage is about 170-190. I need to turn it down to 40%. That'd be something like 34.5 volts....I think..I need to do some math.

36V wont even light up a 48V cob, something seems fishy there

Just wondering... why would u want plants to veg slower? As in, why not always veg them as fast as they can grow? I get vegging for 2 weeks or 4 weeks or 8weeks, etc, to control size, height, yield... but Ive always strived to get as much growth as possible, as quickly as possible, by using co2, upper 70's, even LOW 80's for temp, &as much light as they can handle. Not trolling at all... genuinely curious of any potential benefits.
Eg; my mind tells me that 24 hours/day lighting should OBVIOUSLY grow plants faster & stronger... but its not the case. You can definitely use a 24hr veg cycle & have much success... but in my experience & what others are telling me as well, is that a 20 hr veg cycle usually produce stronger, thicker stalks, with no decrease in grow times. So a 24 hr/day of constant light costs more $ in electricity, & robs the plant of valuable rest, that appears to make them "beefier".

Question for those using the HLG QB288 for complete life cycle, seedling to harvest lighting...
What is everybody doing when transitioning between seedling, veg, flowering strains, wattage/light-height wise?
The 2 main styles:
1.) Set light at a given height & leave it, only changing the wattage it puts out as the plant develops, but not altering the height of the light. Or...
2.) set the wattage & leave it alone, & only change the height of the light, moving the board closer as the plant moves from seedling to veg to flower...
A combof both could of course be used, but Im curious if anyone has found one to be easier or better than the other.

Recommendations

Flowering: 14-25 PAR watts per foot, 750-1350 PPFD
Veg bulk: 8-12 PAR watts per foot, 400-600 PPFD
Veg clone/seedling: 4-6 PAR watts per foot, 200-300 PPFD

If time is not a concern mothers can be kept under 200-300 PPFD and plants can be vegged under the same.

Then something is going on. Clu48 90cri. Am I mistaken on the cob voltage?


Current voltage with all four COBs, checked with a Fluke 77iii, is 35.9 volts. Minimum voltage it can be adjusted to is 34v with a max of 38v.

I veg, and flower with both a 1000w Hortilux Color Corrected HPS. 1 for each 4 x 4, and 3 x 34w Solacure UVA/UVB Flower Power bulbs per 4 x 4.

@kristoffolese For me, I don't have a veg area and don't look for clones until I think I need them. I also have limited room if I over veg because the flower room takes longer than expected, I end up with more problems. Like getting around my room since it is in an L shape.

the absolute lowest an 1818 will light up is around 42V and in that case its pulling <0.01A and the light is barely visible. at 0.1A its around 47V

the voltage range you describe sounds like a 1212
