How many pot changes ?

so how many times should I ideally be re-poting my babies ? and was size should i end up in ? for say a 2ft plant

I try and repot only once because with any plant it shocks the entire plant really bad when you do anything to the root system... a 3 gallon pot should be plenty for a 2 ft plant
