How many plants? / 1000w questions

I currently have a 1000w hps and yesterday i setup an area to run it, the dimensions are about 6x4x7. I haven't done much for the cooling part as of now but the room is quite chilly right now without the light on. As the summer comes I'm sure I will run into some heat issues. I plan on running the lights from 10pm-10am to help some heat issues I may encounter. As for the grow, I wanted to start as many seedlings as i can under 12/12 until I sex them, then veg for an uncertain time and finish up... Now my question is how many small plants should or could i fit in there? Also how many females could flower under a sog grow? Thanks in advance.

thanks for your replies. I wanted to run the light 12 hours on established seedlings from cfl's. This way I can "weed" out the males before devoting all the 18 hours of light on which will be some males and some females. I plan on switching the light back to atleast 18/6 after I know the sex.

i usually do a sog in one room with 45 plants or so, under a 100w. i get great results and the cycle is only 2.5 months from clones. late

Doing a sog straight from clone you could do 40 maybe 50 plants but going from seed it'll be much smaller,i'd say 15 to 20 plants.

I have seen 80 per room under 2,400 watts each room, with real estate to spare.

Instead of going through all the time wasting motions of flowering then reverting back to veg, then back to flower, why not just let your plants mature naturally, then take clones from each plant, number the clones to match the mother they were taken from, after the clones root throw them straight into flower, this way you'll know exactly which ones are male or female without wasting a month changing cycles back & forth.

An added bonus of this method is that you now have a stock of female mothers ready for next round .

My first room i set up exactly the way your thinking about now,my second room i set up the way i described above & it knocked a solid month off my total time, with healthier plants.

For pot size keep them small, one gallon pots will be fine, the sog method means small plants for the cola, you dont need large pots for this, you may have to water & nute more often but i think it works better that way, without giving up mucho valueable real estate.

i veg for 2 weeks after they root and i dont use pots, i use 6 inch grow bags. they are like 4 cents each and super easy to use. and you dont have to save em to reuse. just buy em, grow it, and trash em. late

Thanks for the great ideas everyone. I went over the thought of a mother plant plenty of times. I just figured since I wasn't investing in seeds this grow that it'd be a waste of time. But I believe that would be the fairest way to do it. The clones will have mostly the same characteristics aswell as growing height. After the first crop is harvested I plan on upgrading and such. Thanks again!
